Dear Listers, I am seeking any leads or references relating to Johannes ROLAND (also Rowland, Rouland, Rohland, Rohlendt, Rolande, Roeland or similar) who arrived in the Conestoga wilderness of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, with wife Ann Mary (?) in 1726 or 1727. The family is believed to have come through Philadelphia shortly before the Port required passenger lists for vessels with mostly German-speaking passengers, so no ship name or exact date of arrival is known. They were likely Mennonite, possibly Brethren, and probably spent some time in the Palatine. Johannes Roland was said to be a weaver so they may have been in Krefeld, Germany, prior to their assumed departure from Holland. One Roland Family researcher thought the Rolands may have originally come from Bern, in part because of their close Pennsylvania association with others known to have roots in the Bern area. Johannes was probably born in the 1690s and died in 1763 in Leacock Township, Lancaster County. He and Ann Mary had known children named Feronica, Jacob, John, Catherine, Mary, and Anna, most of whose subsequent lines are extensively documented. Any and all assistance is most welcome. Many thanks in advance for replies and for the opportunity to post this message. David Roland Reston, Virginia
