Hi list [especially Regula and Wolf and other Swiss members], I am working on another translation, this time of Heer's chapter on the Martis. I need help translating a few final "mystery" words. I've exhausted all my dictionaries and history books here. Here are the words, in context: "Phragnei" [It's 1732, and a conference is settling a dispute about the transport of grain through Glarus. "S.S.S." [ They're talking about an agreement between Switzerland and Germany in 1915-16. "Lauis" [Where is this? Is it in Canton Tiscino? If so, what's its name today? The people are referred to as "Los".] "Fahrtsfeter" [It's 1836, and this Marti, who is a minister, is participating as a travelling preacher. "Nach Wiedereinf"uhrung der gemeinsamen FAHRTSFETER..."] "Zahnbringen" [Dr. Marti is successfully stopping the smallpox epidemics with his introduction of the vaccine. But, there are still problems. "Handgelu"bde" [Back to the conference on grain transport. Thanks in advance for your help. Sue Wolf s-wolf@mindspring.com
