Greeting ; boz@warwick.net and SWITZ-L researchers ; {"boz" you didn't sign your post, sorry} Your surname BOSSLEY could this be another spelling for BALTZLI lines of SWITZERLAND Some other spellings are BALTZIS, BALTZLE, BALZLEY, BALTZLEY, BALTZY, BALSLEY, BOSLEY, POSLEY, POLSLEY, PANTZLY PALSLEY. Here's some brief things I know about this BALTZLI lines of mine.. Peter {Von or Baron} BALTZLI born Switz. d.1750 in Balligen Switz. 3 of his children {sons all b. Switz} came to America 1754 Peter {w/ wife Elizabeth {GLESSER} b. Laugnau Canton Bern and 3 children Peter b. 1752, Anne Marie b.1753 and John b.1751 believed to have died either just before sailing or on board ship unknown which}, and Peter's 2 brothers Christian, and Christopher. In 1748 Son Peter came to America with Cousins Casper and Jacob to investigate conditions in America. The decision was made for this 1748 trip by Peter and Cousins as conditions were bad in their native country [Switz]. Peter was not Mennonite but the Cousins were making their reasons more of a religious reasons, but Political conditions were Peter's family concern as the story goes to realize his dream of immigration, Peter had large land holdings to dispose of, the last tie which bound him to his old country, especially when his father dies in 1750. Peter and family settle near Reading, Berks Co. Pennsylvania, USA. making at least one land purchase in Berks Co. PA. Peter never learned to speak English. In America Peter acquired great wealth owning at his death vast possessions in houses and land. Peter and Elizabeth both I believed died in New Philadelphia, Ohio. And Elizabeth, as the story goes her GLESSLER's lines were of the William Tell Tales lines. their Children b. USA were Twins b. 1756 Elizabeth and Christian, John 1759 & my line d.1814 New Philadelphia OH., and Jacob b. 1763 all born in Berks Co. PA. There is a rootsweb.com List of researcher BALSLEY-L Maybe there's some of them lurking here on the Switz-L . As I'm kind of new to some of this older history of the lines and would like more data if anyone can share or others that might be of the lines or researching them. I would welcome any offers of doing lookups in anyone's sources. I know there is a Bernard BALTZLI living in France that is descendent of these lines Don't know how or which ways he is descending but, maybe he's been contacted by or maybe someone can help me link up to him for help on this research. Hope you can link your BOSSLEY spelling back as I would enjoy hearing from anyone and everyone about my BALTZLI lines.. Hi Phil BALSLEY I believe your on this Switz-L. Just as another note John BALSLEY b.1823 d.1895 Woodland Cemetery, Dayton Ohio, was a Carpenter, and Inventor of the folding step-ladder. Also there's a genie book " THE BALTZLI DESCENDANTS " wrote by Katherine A.P.Bryan in abt. 1930's which has alot of what I know. I know that a few researchers think this book is not correct, but given the time it was wrote and s-mail was the way to do this research I think it's a good starting place for many facts. I've not gotten into finding an errors of my direct lines so far, but find this reference material better then nothing as a starting point.. I know the book is out of print and hard to find in Libraries. I only have abt. 10 pages that a cousin {Xerox} copies for me out of their book and I appreciate each and every pages as it tells a bit of a story {letters/notes} wrote to Katherine used for sources.. You can get a feel for these folks of the early years.
