I'm on page 190 of a 259 page book, so this will end soon, I promise! 1. Sesshaft/seeshaft -- as in "Erni war sesshaft von Schwyz." 2. One person's name here is Jakob Lib. Betschart What does Lib. stand for? My brain, being the twisted mass of synapses it is (see next question), keeps whispering "Liberace," which I KNOW ain't right. 3. Family legend has it that my branch's nickname, Lunzä/Lunz/Lunzen, means something along the lines of crazy, strange, weird, or a dolt. My ggggg-grandfather (give or take a few Gs) was named Josef Leonzi, and he advertised himself as "Meister Lunzi Bätschart, Schuhmacher" in 1755. I initually concluded that Lunzi was just an alternate spelling of Leonzi. Or is it a pun of some sort? Actually I hope it does mean "crazy" or some such, because then I can excuse my own weirdness as a mere upholding of family tradition, ha ha ha. 4. Long shot: Is anyone researching SUTERs in Kanton Schwyz? I've got a million of those, it seems. When the Betscharts weren't marrying each other, they were marrying Suters... Fröhliche Weinachten! Joyeux Noel! [Insert Italian and Romansch expressions here] Joann Betschart (Lunzä Schützenhaus) Betscharts from Muotathal list information: http://www.egroups.com/list/betscharts/
