Bruce: Accoirding to SWiss Surnames there is only one area in Canton Fribourg that has Grau name in it before 1800; Ried bei Kerzersw (a) The name appears also in other cantons before 1800 Canton Bern - Wynigen (a) Canton LuZerne - Emmen (a) -Ebikon - (b) from 1800 to 1850 St Gallen Canton - Haggenschwil (a) Zurich canton - Dietikon (a) Hope this wil be of some help.
