    3. The question "What were the common ports of departure?" is asked frequently in this discussion group. I'm attempting to compile an answer to that question for an FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) list for the group. Le Havre was one of the most common ports of departure, but we know that the answer depends on the time period and the available modes of transportation to a port. If you know your ancestor's port of departure, I'd like to know about it. Please answer as many as you can of the following questions: Canton of origin? (if known) Port of departure? Year & month of departure from the port? Port of arrival? Year & month of arrival at the port? Name of ship? (if known) Length of voyage, in days? (if known) Destination (Country, state, etc.)? If you have spotted an ancestor family from sources such as "Germans to America", and know the ship information, but do not know the Canton of origin, just do not include the Canton name or say "don't know." If you have multiple families who travelled separately, repeat the set of answers for each family. Please do not respond to the list. Respond to me privately at ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ LGHART@ix.netcom.com I'll compile the results and publish them to the list. This is not a very scientific poll, but I believe the results will be interesting to the group. Thank you for your help. Lyle G. Hartman Landenberg, Pennsylvania LGHART@ix.netcom.com
