I recently found some information out from the 1850 Census for Clinton County PA. My ancestors say they came from Wuerttemberg Germany. I believe maybe they put this because this is where they applied for their passport. I know this is where a lot of people applied for passports to America. This is all the information I really have I know they also came here in the 1830's. I still have not been able to find the precise city they are from. Can anyone help me? The name on the census reads Frederick Gleice. It is now Glise. I also heard a story that has been passed down, that they originally came from Switzerland and passed through France before coming to Pennsylvania. In France their names were altered and when they got here the names were altered again. I know that Frederick had a wife named Christiana and on her grave it says Christiana Klaiss.
