While looking for something else, I noticed that the article on "Heiliger Stuhl" in the Historisches Biographisches Lexikon der Schweiz (v. 4, pp. 121-123), has a list of the Hauptleute (captain or leader) of the Papal Swiss guard. The list is complete from 1505 to this century (when the HBLS was published). It's not an answer to the earlier posting about the Legio Helvetica but it is relevant to the discussion about the Papal guard which ensued. Regards, Mike Hobart
