    3. Dear All, let me just explain (again ;-)) the importance of "Familiennamenbuch" http://swiss.genealogy.net/famnam-m.htm using this as example (no offense intended !!). When you check a gazetter (or list of zip codes or ...) you will not find a location "Reinac" - so we have to look for alternative spellings : there are Reinach AG, Reinach BL, Rheineck SG, possibly Rheinau ZH, or a few more rather far fetched names. So as next step you check whether any of these "candidates" ist listed for Gautschi - yes - it is : Reinach AG (AG stands for canton Aargau). It's that easy - and you know for sure ;-) ! You haven't got easy access to Familiennamenbuch ? No problem : try the "Swiss Surname Directory" http://swiss.genealogy.net/surnam-m.htm (read the description, and then follow the link to the query page), and you not only find information from Familiennamenbuch, but also from several other sources - plus a list of 16 researchers (with e-mail addresses) interested in Gautschi. I wish you success with your further research, and send my best regards - Wolf Seelentag ---------------------- Wolf W.
