    1. [SWITZ] AEPPLI, APPEL, or EPLEY surnames
    2. Bob Setzer, Jr.
    3. Hi, I am new to the list and would like to ask if anyone has any information on the AEPPLI, APPEL, or EPLEY surnames. I have seen many different spellings. I am told that the surname originates in Switzerland.I found info on a JOHANNES AEPPLI who was christened 27, Jan, 1720 in Waldkirch, St. Gallen. The info says his father was JOHANN AEPPLI and mother was VERONICA GROEBIN. This came from the LDS files online. The knowledge I have on my line of EPLEY'S starts with JOHN EPPLEE who apparently came over to the US into Pennsylvania (maybe by way of Germany). His record says he was born abt. 1720 and died Nov. 1795. He married ROSINA __?__. There is a land grant for him in Manheim Townsip, York Co. PA. Children of JOHN and ROSINA EPPLEE: 1. MATTHIAS EPPLY b. ?? d.?? Married (1) ANNA MARIA RITTER Oct. 23, 1764 in St. Matthews Church, Hanover, PA (2) CHRISTINA RISEDEL/RIDDLE before 1771, daughter of DONINIANA RISEDEL/RIDDLE 2. HANS PETER EPPLY JOHN EPPLEE was my G-G-G-G-G grandfather. MATTHIAS was my G-G-G-G grandfather. I am trying to make the European connection to my family would be of great help. Thanks in advance for any information on the above or any info on the surname in general. I do know that there are several references to it way back around Zurich and in the St. Gallen area. Also, I wondered if the place, APPENZEL would be connected? What does that word mean in English? Thanks. Bambi Setzer bobsetzer@worldnet.att.net
