Is anyone researching the Freitag family from Elm in Glarus? I have recently discovered that my great-grandmother, Anna Maria Freitag, was born on 26 October 1862 in Elm. She was in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania by 1883 when she married Adam Laupert from Oberhausen, Germany. Someone was kind enough to check FTM's CD#356, "Germans to America 1875-1888" for me and I found one reference for Anna Freitag, age 20, who arrived in the US on October 12, 1882 from Switzerland listing her occupation as Dressmaker. According to this information, there were no other Freitag's on this ship. However, a seemingly very large family of Freitag's came from Switzerland on May 12, 1882 on the same ship. This family appears to be headed by Heinrich and Regula Freitag and included 9 children ranging in age from 5 to 22. Would a 20 year old female dressmaker travel alone to join her family?
