I soon will visit Switzerland and need help locating Birth records in the 1840's. How do I find them in civil record form in Eggiwil(North of Bern) and in Glattfelden (North of Zurich) Where do I go? Is it called a canton office? What is the word for this office? What are the hours of operation? I plan to be there the 8th and 10th of February. Will I be running into any problem holidays that will close offices? How do I present myself? Is there a Swiss German request letter I can access? What can I expect as a response? What are the usual fees? Do they have that year of records in a city records office? or Should I be going to the small towns and be looking in the churches?
