Dear Bruce: The data from SSD was misunderstood by you. Please review http://www.eye.ch/swissgen/famnam-m.htm to understand what all of it means. The only connection with 1940, was the year Familiennamenbuch was published. The 'a' after the village indicates citizenship from before 1800. In other words, the Touchon family have been citizens of La Sagne for a long, long, long time. Probably back to the 15-1600's. E. TOUCHON, Marie Louise GRAU, to USA 1893 [large snip] The SSD information I received indicated there was still a TOUCHON connection in La Sagne in 1940. I received GRAU information from the SSD also, but I have not gotten it translated yet. Someone looked at a copy of the family bible page that I have, and they said it looked like a combination of French, German, and a little Italian mixed in.
