    3. I have a Zur Lauben Wappen - I believe it is #4 in the Archives Héraldiques Suisse of1897. I cannot attach an image but it has Zur Lauben as a title and there is a bear holding a branch with four leaves, probably of the Linden tree, one leaf in his mouth. In the shield below there are two more bears and more leaves. Please excuse my ignorance of the corect nomenclature - but this is a one time project with me. I would appreciate it if someone would confirm the reference - please do not assume that I am claiming any connection with Zurlauben line - I am not. I use the name in my email as an honor to that noble line.. I also have a copy of what is almost surely that same wappen, apparently copied by hand before the infamous electrostaic proceses and the obiquitous scanner. It has A Touch in thne left lower corner and Jeite 203 in the right lower corner - I have beenasking about the source of this drawing for ten-years, but so far have not found a source - except that is almost surely a copy of the above Zur Lauben wappen. Best regards - anyone interested I do have a bit of a story to tell about how I came to have the drawing Jeite 203. Hal

    3. I found the information in the History of Daviess County, Kentucky. It states he spoke only German. I am sure someone had to translate the information so I am sure anything could happen. It was spelled Alton in the book but could be an error I assume. I really do want to keep this with my history of ARNOLD. Maybe someday I can tie into this you never know. I appreciated it so much and feel terrible for having lost it. Could you please re-send as I lost your name with it and cannot even thank you. Judith PIERCE ARNOLD

    3. Hello Judy, according to the Swiss Surname Book (Schweizer Familiennamenbuch) your ARNOLDs were citizens of Dulliken, SO (Kanton Solothurn) already before 1799. In the city of Solothurn, SO they are mentioned as far back as 1546. There is no "Alton" mentioned for Switzerland, nor among "Heimatort" (places of origin) for ARNOLD. However there is a town called Alten in Kanton Zürich (ZH), but not as a Heimatort for ARNOLD. In addition, the ARNOLDs are found holding citizenship before 1799 in several other Kanton: Luzern (LU) Uri (UR) Wallis (VS) Thurgau (TG) Aargau (AG) Zürich (ZH) If you wish, I'll scan the entire list of Heimatort's where ARNOLDs held citizenship to you separately. Best wishes. 1. Re: What does "Sujet de Son Altepe" mean?
    2. Guillaume Roelly
    3. Hello Your are facing a common misreading from old-french scripture. The sign that is almost like a greek-beta "ß" is not a "p" but a double s. So it is not "sujet de son Altepe" but "sujet de son Altesse" which means "subject of his higness ..." . In your case the name of the "highness" is obmitted as it must have been trivia for the people living here at that time. I suggest that you write to the mayor in Vauffelin (secretariat@vauffelin.ch) to have the historical background that is missing. Sincerely Guillaume > Sujet: > What does "Sujet de Son Altepe" mean? > Expéditeur: > "Dianne Esplin" <desplin@mstar2.net> > Date: > Sat, 13 Aug 2005 00:08:59 -0700 > Destinataire: > SWITZERLAND-L@rootsweb.com > > Destinataire: > SWITZERLAND-L@rootsweb.com > > >My ancestor, Jean Jaques BELLOT is identified on the baptism record of his two children as "Jean Jaques BELLOT Sujet de Son Altepe demerant sur la Montagne de Plagne". I've also noticed that the writing of the S in "Sujet" and "Son" are written differently (less elaborate) than other capital S's in this entry. I get that he is living on the Mountain of Plagne (which, BTW, is near Vauffelin, Bern, CH), but I'm clueless about this Altepe thingy. The year is about 1780. The helper at the Family History Library in SLC suggested it is some sort of political locality, but they didn't know for sure-- never encountered it before. I wonder about the "Sujet" (Subject)-- perhaps he was some sort of indentured servant to some guy named Altepe? Maybe a soldier? Is there anyone else out there who has encountered this phrase and knows what it means? Thanks! Dianne E. > > >

    3. Hello to everyone on the list I am Margaret from Australia searching great great grandfather Joannis Gorgii Diener. I have found that my was a Citizen in Turbach. Could someone help me to go to the right list to get information about the area. The time frame would be Abt. 1716 - 1776. Would there be any reason at that time; that he would leave that area and go Rastatt Germany via the Black Forest. I hope that I have the right Turbach as I have not found another one. Any information would be appreciated. Thank you Margaret

    3. I sent a check to Mr. Christoph Bouyer Etudes Genealogiques Susse Case Postale 275 `1001 Lausanne VD Switzerland CH for $405 on 29 May 2005, and signed his contract for the research. The check was signed by Mr. Bouyer on 13 May 2005., when he received the money. I have e-mailed him twice to ask about the research, or a refund. He will not answer my e-mail. When I asked about a researcher on Switzerland-L, he replied to my e-mail. I have had wonderful relations with other researchers, and I do not understand this. Is anyone in contact with Mr. Bouyer? I would appreciate any assistance anyone could give me. Anne W. McAllister Hickory, NC 28601
