Hello Everyone - Yeaaa! Have finally gotten my computer together today (with help from my nephew) and can finally get my Christmas letter out. Those of you who are on my email list will only get this letter, but it's the best I can do this year. I hadn't realized until started packing how much stuff I scchlepped down to Yuma over the 10 year perios and how much I accumulated until I had to start packing up. Thank heavens for lay's daughter, Carol, and all her help the last 9 days. I ended with about 50 melon boxes to schlep back up here to Vegas. Tom and his father-in-law came down in Tom's truck and a 15 foot trailer to get everything back. I thought it would take a whole day to get it all loaded, but with the help of some neighbors and a couple guys from church, it was done by 11:30 and we were up here by 5:30 and unloaded most of it that evening. I still have about 16 boxes left to unpack, because I have to take 2 steps back before I can put things away. Had to clean out the linen closet to get thengs put in there, had to clean and rearrange kitchen cupboards, and just had to clean. Still haven't gotten to the kitchen and laundry room curtains, they have only been taken down and washed once since I left! Unpacking is taking a lot longer then I expected - didn't account for the bad days I've had and just hid out in my bedroom all day. At least I'm taking care of myself, eating properly and taking my pills and supplements. I've been to the eye surgeon and will be having 2 cataract surgeries, the first on Jan 5th. I can't wait to get it over with and be able to see clearly again. The kids are all doing well and Therese is still poking along. Altho she doesn"t see well, she recognizes everyone by their voices. I still keep asking myself who has to learn what from her that she's still here. She has good days when she's laughing and joking and other days when she won't say a word. Fortunately she's in a very good nursing home and gets good care. I hope that you all will have a very blessed Merry Christmas and a healthy and Happy New Year. Much love, Alice
Dear fellow listers, Wishing everyone on the list a very happy and safe Christmas and all the best in all things for 2006. Hello Nellie, Hello the list, I hope You are well. I have a very good notice for You Nellie and other genealogists in Amerika. I belong to a genealogists forum for the french part of Switzerland and a message has just landed. It concerns the lists of passengers who came to Amerika across the Atlantic Ocean via the boats of the "frenchlines" between 1864 and 1936. Here is the site : http://www.frenchlines.com/passager_index_fr.php It's very interesting, even if it doesn't have all the people who came in Amerika. I give You also the original message I have become. It is in french. If You want, i'll try to translate but I haven't the time right now. Let me know. " Regards William, in Geneva, Switzerland.
Thank you, William, in Geneva, Switzerland, This is an excellent resource for Swiss searchers! The ships are highlighted, and when you click on them it shows ALL THE PASSENGERS in alphabetical order! Even if your ancestors did not come over on these ships, a good suggestion would be to check each list for names that you may just know. Thank you, William for sharing! We hope it is not TOO cold, in Geneva! Here it is 67 degrees F. (19.4 C) today. http://www.frenchlines.com/passager_index_fr.php Regards from Nellie, a 68-yr-old root digger in Texas, where the ground never freezes.

Hi list, Earlier this evening I visited this family site, checking out the calendar. _http://borisbrooks.com_ (http://borisbrooks.com) The photos and presentation are of professional quality and very very interesting. (even though they are not my relatives!) I don't know him personally, but please visit Jim Rickenbacker's site and enjoy his story of his and his wife Jeanne's recent trip down the Rhine (with photos and maps). When you are done, you will not only know a lot about Basel, Switzerland, and the route many of our ancestors took, you will also know that Jim likes food and drink...like many of the rest of us! Regards from Nellie, a 68-yr-old root digger in Texas, where the ground never freezes ? (it is coooollllldddd here! 16 degrees you betcha!)
Thanks to all for the quick replies to my request for help. My face is REALLY Red. One reply mentioned their Genealogy Program had the a calendar file. This got me to thinking. I checked Family Tree Maker and there was the program. My apologies for disturbing your research. I only have 81 years of excuses for being absent minded. Thanks, Again, Roy

Would anyone have information or a website to see a drawing of the ship OHIO 1881? My GGGrandfather left Bremen to the USA on the ship OHIO - arriving Oct. 20, 1881. Final destination: USA manifest #: 36285 Any insight would be helpful. Laura
Hi All, I am trying to find any trace of distant relatives. Surname: HOTTINGER, August Martin - Basel, Switzerland Surname: Brügger, Clara Amanda - Montreux, Switzerland Do these names still exist in these cities/cantons? Immigrated in 1904 and 1906 respectively through Ellis Island (record found). What churchs (Catholic) would be in these areas? They both spoke German. I need to find church records for their parents to continue my search. August's parents (Maria Koch/Martin Hottinger) Clara's parents ( Anna maria Bossert/Adolf or Traugott Brügger) Laura smokindogs@sbcglobal.net

Hello, fellow Swiss genealogists. My Great-great-grandfather's surname was Courvoisier (born 1814), and my great-great grandmother's surname was Huguenin (born 1820). They are assumed to have come from Le Loche, Neuchatel, Switzerland. Does anyone have an idea how I can find records of their births and marriage? Thank you, Ken Roberts

Not that it matters much, but if you wish to be consistent in which language you mentioned Bern/Berne, here it is: Kanton Bern = in German Canton de Berne French Cantone di Berna = Italian Canton Bern = English BE = postal code for Kt. Bern Since Kanton Bern is in the Swiss German speaking region of CH, it seems to make sense to write it in German, unless your text is totally French or Italian. Kanton Bern is kind of on the cusp of French speaking Switzerland and therefore many Bernese are bi-lingual (Bi-laengs). Of course there is also the city of Bern, capitol of not only Kanton Bern, but also the seat of the Swiss Federal Government. BTW, you can find this information easily for all Cantons in CH and lots more by going to website: http://www.genealogienetz.de/reg/CH/kanton-m.htm Hanneli ----- Original Message ----- From: <bobtheachey@verizon.net> To: <SWITZERLAND-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, December 02, 2005 8:24 AM Subject: clarification wanted >I come across addresses like: > Bern....... and Berne......which is correct? > Canton Bern, Switzerland...................? > Berne Canton, Switzerland..................? > Bob > > ______________________________
