    2. W. David Samuelsen
    3. I am looking for a coordinator who will give time and energy to maintain the Baden-Wurttemberg site as part of WorldGenWeb Project. Please contact if you are very interested in taking over the site from the present coordinator, Frank Mailänder who has to step down because of his election to his city muncipal counil in his town in Germany. If there are several interesting in taking over, Frank and I will discuss who has time and willing to do it before selecting the coordinator. Baden-Wurttemberg site is at http://www.rootsweb.com/~deubadnw if you wish to check it out. There are few policies governing WorldGenWeb Project http://www.worldgenweb.org And as usual we are always looking for any volunteers to run and maintain OTHER countries in South America, southern Europe, Africa, Asia and Pacific where the volunteers are extremely needed badly. Many countries are currently without any coordinator. W. David Samuelsen

You have certainly given me a good reference with the immigration dates beginning in 1848. Since Wilhelm Bucher was born 12 Jul 1833 (Bern) and married in Leavenworth, KS in 1857 it seems a likely period of time as he would have been about 15 in 1848 if traveling with parents. Or he might have been traveling alone if traveling within the next few years. It is frustrating to know so little about him. He died in Leavenworth, KS in 1866 at the age of 30. He was known to be lawyer although I have his shingle which reads "notary." It has been said that his family were "hotel" people (probably in Switzerland) and that they disowned him because he married a "low" German.( His wife, my gr- grandmother was from Varel in northern Germany). Family given names besides Wilhelm (his first son) were Henry Robert, my grandfather, his second son. However, the name Heinrich was on his wife's side of the family. (grandfather). Henry Robert's sons were: the 1st, William again and my father Henry Edwin. I wonder why these names all sound so English? Are there German equivalents to Robert and Edwin? My father's sisters were Bertha and Marie. I do have a cousin still living in Leavenworth but she has no interest in Genealogy and knows no more than I do. And yes, there is a military base in Leavenworth. It is or was a military prison. Thank you again for your helpful email. Best regards, Billie Bucher Beeler

    3. Hi to everyone. Hope this is an easy question......... I am working from some information in a family bible. Can anyone tell me what the word"sterbefalle" (has the two dots over 'a') means? It is after the name Mrs. Helena Nable, and we thought it might describe her relationship to the family. 3. Dear Bob, thanks for the hint : I have immediately linked to it from the Zuerich pages within SwissGen (http://swiss.genealogy.net). Let me just add two more URLs of theirs : 1. Basic genealogy information, incl. a brief description of their sources (yes - unfortunately in German only) may be found on http://www.staatsarchiv.zh.ch/genealogie.html 2. A list (as RTF file) of all surnames with "old" (prior to 1800) citizenship in Canton Zuerich (sorted by community) may be downloaded from http://www.staatsarchiv.zh.ch/download/Z_BUERG.RTF This lists the surnames only; more info on these names is available from the book "Zuercher Familiennamen" http://swiss.genealogy.net/kant/zhnam-m.htm Data from this source may be requested (e-mail) from the Swiss Surname Directory http://swiss.genealogy.net/surnam-m.htm which unfortunately is temporarily not available (we are working on it : if you want to be informed about resumption of service, just send an empty mailto:SSD-update@bigfoot.com). 1. [SWITZ] Staatsarchiv in Zurich
    2. To Swiss listers: The Staatsarchiv in Zurich now has a Web Site. However it is all in German, but with my Globalink Translator program I can translate about 85 to 90 % of it into English. The Site has the following URL: http://www.staatsarchiv.zh.ch/vitrine.html They also list a e-mail address on the Konkact page. The address is as follows: staatsarchivzh@jz.zh.ch I assume that all correspondence should be in German, since the Site is written in German. I have not e-mail anything to them as yet, so this is only a guess. Hi Bob The Website is: http://www.bs.ch/stabs/index.html They have an email address: stabs@bs.ch In addition to that try their contact side: http://www.bs.ch/cgi-bin/stabs/kontakt.pl?stabs@bs.ch You mention Dr. Andreas Staehelin, I didn't find him on the list of contacts at: http://www.bs.ch/stabs/main_ueberuns_ansprechpartner.html Are you sure that he works (still) at the Staatsarchiv? I found some older literature by him: Staehelin, Andreas: Die Abteilung "Privat-Archive" des Basler Staatsarchivs, in: Jahresbericht des StABS 1962, S. 27-42.
