Swissrooters: Over the years I have been using web search engines to find information. I have been using SSSpider as my primary search engine for the last 6 months and find it the "best of all". All of this work by SSSpider has only one goal - to let you quickly find the information you were searching for without wasting time and effort on irrelevant or out-dated links. When looking for specific information on the Internet, you can end up spending hours trying to guess which Web search site you should try first for a particular type of information, looking through Web directories and querying search engines - each with it's own special query rules, clicking on pages of links only to find that most of them lead to irrelevant web sites or to pages that no longer exist. Based on Kryloff Technologies' sophisticated search technology, which uses phonetic algorithms to find matches, SSSpider can handle 36 different languages and does not require you to use any special query syntax or even correctly spell unfamiliar words in the phrase you are looking for. To make matters worse, search sites like Yahoo and Excite are not only unable to keep up with the growing amount of information to be cataloged, they make their money from advertising. Using them requires you to wait for banner ads to load with every page you view. In order to let you see the power of SSSpider, we offer you the ability to download the 2.1 evaluation version and use all the functionality FREE for thirty days. In fact, the evaluation copy of SSSpider will keep running even after thirty days, just start displaying a reminder that your evaluation period is over. Once you see what SSSpider can do, we're sure you will want to purchase a copy and get the full benefits of using the registered version! System requirements - Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows NT; - 8Mb memory; - At least 15Mb free disk space; - A connection to the Internet, either through a dial-up connection (SLIP/PPP) or a LAN with an Internet connection; - A pre-installed Internet browser; either Netscape Navigator or MS Internet Explorer are preferable. To download the 2.1 evaluation version and use all the functionality FREE for thirty days. Log into the following URL and give it a try. The register version is $29.95. http://www.kryltech.com/ Good searching, Bob Pfister ___________________________________________________________________ Get the Internet just the way you want it. Dear Researchers Last week I went to the State Archive in Berne to do some researchings in the Passport Register. One interesting and starange thing I found in the Passport Register number 9! It seems that Register and Document Folder dont correspond every time. A check worked out as follows: Passport Register 9 only list 49 passports for the years from 1884 till 1886. Looking at the Document Folder you'll find 1'017 passports. This means that if you dont find the wanted person in the Register check as well the Document Folder; the person might be listed there. If you know the exact date, the passport was issued, you could directly use the Document Folder, using the Register only for crosschecking. The State Archive from the Canton of Berne is preparing an electronic version of the passport register which means that "later" (Date unknown) we might be able to search for surnames, home town, destination etc. Sounds quiet interesting ... I'll notify you about any news concerning the passport register. You'll find soon the updated page for the Bernese passport register on the internet or if you are in a hurry drop me a email at schick@datacomm.ch and ask eighter for the Word or the Text version of the documentt. Greetings from Murten, Switzerland! Christof Schick-Fernandez
can anybody help me please. I am trying to contact anybody from the family of Mrs Hayden Senn the descendants of Isac and or Abram Senn, mosquetaires 1745 and 1748. Family originally from Bale, citizen of Neufchatel since 1723, settled in Geneva since 1762. One of the family Pierre Senn established in Laverne about 1836.Thanking you. Mervyn Senn
I am in need of a researcher willing to assist in searching for ANY information on both Andre Paule Zurkinden (daughter of) Andre Paul Zurkinden. She was my mothers eldest half-sister born May 5, 1914 in Tientsin, China supposedly after her father died. He was supposed to have been Swiss and worked in China as a Civil Engineer, building bridges. The only recorded reference I have is my Grandmothers marriage certificate in which it states Jeanne Henriette Morel nee Zurkinden. She was married to my Grandfather Ernest Henry Oliver Oct 20, 1915 in Tientsin, China supposedly after Zurkindens demise. I have no birth certificate of him or his daughter, no marriage certificate of him, no death certificate and I do not know what company he would have been employed with in China nor where he was buried. Would someone be able to assist me in sleuthing for any information for him or recommend someone who can? -- No person is your friend who demands your silence or denies your right to grow.-Alice Walker
I wrote a letter in June to Zentralstelle fur genealogische Auskunfte. I have not received a reply. Does anyone know how long it usually takes? Also, do they have a website? Thanks, Bruce ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
I would like to know if there is anyone on the net who lives in or near the village of Vendlincourt, Canton Jura who speaks English and might be able to help with the records concerning the Petiprin/Petitprin Family circa 1750 to 1850? Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thank You Bill Wells breatax@aol.com
Hello everybody; Does anybody out there know of a family called Fatzer, livin g in the Mount Pilatus area who might have opened their home to an English child going to school there in the late 1890's? I am actually looking for the name of a school where a 13 year old boy might have gone, while living in the Fatzer family home. The boy was my grandfather, and I would like to get inf0ormation on him, from the school if it can be located, but I don't have the name of the school. I know he lived with this family because I have a letter that his father wrote to hime in May of 1899, and the name Fatzer is mentioned several times in the letter. Unless, of course,....... Fatzer is the name of the headmaster or principal, or dean or whatever the head of the school is called over there. I'd appreciate ANY leads at all, as I really STUCK. Thanks, Happy Trails Nancy Ontario, Canada
I have't yet figured out how to insert a clickable URL address into my emails. But, for those new to the list, you can reach the Swiss surname database by typing in these letters and symbols: http://iseli.simplenet.com/SSD/ Let me know if you are having problems and I'll go back to them through my original email response from them!

I am fairly new to this list. Can anyone recommend a thorough and reasonable researcher for Aargau? I have the town name as Zuzgen. Does anyone know if there is a town in Aargau by this name? As sources of information, "parish rec Zuzgen, Aargau" is listed. Can you tell from this what religion this was? Was the area just one religion? Doing research in Switzerland is new to me, as you can probably tell. So I need all the advice/recommendations anyone can offer me. I cross-posted my message to several lists and am now compiling the answers. I will post a summary of those suggestions to this list later. Incidentally, the Swiss Surnames database is up and running again if any of you want to check out your surnames. Margaret Shank

I would like to ask for any suggestions you may be willing to share on how to locate someone. In researching my wife's paternal line I learned that a second cousin of hers has spent a lot of time researching his family's history. We have been trying to contact him by snail mail at the last known address any immediate family member has without success. His name is Marcel Maisse and my wife's sister had met with him about ten years ago when he was living at: Village Aigues vertes, 1233 Bernex GE, Suisse. He has evidently moved but we have been unable to locate his current address. Does anyone have any suggestions on where we may look to try to find him. Thanks for your help. Tom O'Brien 19364 S. I am trying to plan a strategy for researching the ancestors of Ulrich Schenk b.abt. 1565 in Hinton Senggen Eggiwil (Bern) who married Annali Rytz of the same area. These are the earliest known of my Swiss Mennonite Ancestors. Are there resources ( religious, political) whichg I can consult in Switzerland to try to go back further? What about the areas in Germany where they lived in exile before emigraating to the American colonies in 1717? How do I find credible, reliable professional genealogists in both Switzerland and Germany? What is a fair rate to pay?
