Hi Robert, I have been using Generations Grande Suite (from Sierra) for a year now, and I still love it. This is definitely a good software I would recommend. What was really important for me when I bought it was to be able to input all the accents and special characters I needed. Another priority was that the system had to accept "special" situations, ie several weddings, adopted children, unknown or unproven parentage, etc. Go visit Sierra's website for yourself. You'll get a better idea of what they offer. My husband's g-grandfather Henry Hoffman (Heinrich Hoffmann von Oberglatt, Kt. Zürich) came to America (Havre, France to New York) on the Ship President Fillmore, arriving on March 7, 1854. I have transcribed the partial passenger list that I received from the National Archives and it has just been posted to Vol. 2 of the lists of the Immigrant Ships Transcribers Guild (ISTG). There were some other Swiss passengers. There is also a search function for each volume of ships (1,000 per volume). They can be seen at http://istg.rootsweb.com/ His brother, Jacob, followed later in 1854, sailing from Antwerp, but all other family members I have tracked (through 1870) sailed from Le Havre to New York, so in the era 1854-1870 my small sample implies many Swiss used those ports. The only info that I have on Niclaus ( Claus or Klaus) is that he was the Son of Alt Johann Wild also known as old Johann of Toggenburg, I have been told that this name might have stood for Alt St Johann the town this was quite a common practice of addressing some one to distinguis him from other in everyday conversation. This is were I need help of fellow members on either Alt Johann Wild and of who his wife might have been or the other Siblings of Niclaus Wild in hopes of finding out more info on the Wild family and were they were first recorded. Gary, Assuming your Gondiswil is correct and it looks good - its zip code is 4955 I would take a punt at Eriswil with zip at 4952. The tail of the "s" is very interesting. They must be very close to each other. The other village looks like Almegg or something similar . My Minder ancestors claimed citizenship in Huttwil, BE and I have many pages of Burger Register information for many of my Swiss ancestors. I understand that births, marriages and deaths were recorded in the town where the family claimed citizenship, even if the event occured elsewhere. My question is this. Is it safe to assume that if no other place is listed for an event, then it occured in the town where it was recorded? Specifically, if my Huttwil Burger Register pages don't mention a place of birth, marriage or death for someone, does that mean the event occured in Huttwil? Thanks! Jakob Minder, son of Ulrich Minder and Haller Jäggi. I can't make out the name or place after and name Jäggi. Jakob married Suzzana Wirth. I can't make out her place of origin. Son Johann Ulrich married Barbara Jäggi. I believe the document says von Gondsiwil. Son Daniel. I can't make out any of the words under his name except possibly a Maria. Dear Listers, I am seeking any leads or references relating to Johannes ROLAND (also Rowland, Rouland, Rohland, Rohlendt, Rolande, Roeland or similar) who arrived in the Conestoga wilderness of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, with wife Ann Mary (?) in 1726 or 1727. The family is believed to have come through Philadelphia shortly before the Port required passenger lists for vessels with mostly German-speaking passengers, so no ship name or exact date of arrival is known. They were likely Mennonite, possibly Brethren, and probably spent some time in the Palatine. Johannes Roland was said to be a weaver so they may have been in Krefeld, Germany, prior to their assumed departure from Holland. One Roland Family researcher thought the Rolands may have originally come from Bern, in part because of their close Pennsylvania association with others known to have roots in the Bern area. Johannes was probably born in the 1690s and died in 1763 in Leacock Township, Lancaster County. He and Ann Mary had known children named Feronica, Jacob, John, Catherine, Mary, and Anna, most of whose subsequent lines are extensively documented. Any and all assistance is most welcome.
