    3. Dear Doug, you have to either just click on it (most mail programs will then automatically start your browser) or type it in EXACTLY as it is, incl. all dots, there are no spaces in URLs - and they are also case sensitive : http://swiss.genealogy.net Of course, servers occasionally play up - but in this case you would most likely get an "error 400". This shouldn't bother you too much - as SwissGen is available from several mirror servers. For people in the USA most likely the fastest one will be http://german.genealogy.net/gene/reg/CH/ or you try the Swiss http://www.eye.ch/swissgen/ or German alternative http://www2.genealogy.net/gene/reg/CH/ Good luck with your further research - Wolf ------------- wolf@swissmail.com > ---------- > Von: DHILBS@aol.com[SMTP:DHILBS@aol.com] > Gesendet: Sonntag, 16. 3. I am looking for the father of Xavier Dizler (Dissler, Disler, Ditzler) who lived in Luzerne and owned the Hotel Gruttle (Ruttle). His father disowned Xavier because he married a peasant named Elizabeth Sopfe (Zopfi) who was born in Bern. Xavier was born in 1847 and Elizabeth in 1843. Both immigrated to Pueblo, Colorado, USA in the 1870’s. If you have any information on Xavier, his parents/siblings, the hotel, or Elizabeth, you could provide me, that would be greatly appreciated. 1. [SWITZ] LEDERREY
    2. Jenny Jones
    3. Hi there, I'm new to the list and on behalf of a friend Sue Tolley (nee LEDERREY) I am researching the LEDERREY family name. We believe her frandfather was a Jean LEDERREY who, on the 1881 census in Stoke Newington UK, was aged 23 and living with his English wife Harret Anne and their one month old child Henry Tallentine. The IGI only has information on LEDERREY in Switzerland so it is very much a Swiss name - is there anyone else out there researching this name who might be able to give me a lead? What facilities are there on the web for carrying out family history searches in Switzerland - particularly French Switzerland which would presumably be based in Geneva? Brings back happy memories as I lived in Nyon 15k outside Geneva for a couple of years in the late 1960's My thanks in advance for any help anyone can give. Jenny Jones Cornwall UK.

    3. Hi, listers, well good news of sorts in my ancestorial hunt...i finally found my family back in Cevio, Ticino....at least back to 1672. I have a perplexing question? Why would the Roman Catholic Church change a family's surname in 1831? The name i know of is FILIPPINI, but back in church manuscripts its spelled 11 different ways.? And mostly with a "P" and then different ways within. Can someone help me? If you think your answer would bennefit the list you may post there or to me privately. Thanks "Genealogists never die, they just loose their census, or their roots...."

Could it also be an > indication that he moved to Rorschach from Bruggen, and therefore > Bruggen church records might be a good place to look for his baptismal > records? > Bruggen was a village near the village of Straubenzell; together with other villages it formed the community of Straubenzell. Consequently there was no citizenship of Bruggen - these people would have been citizens of Straubenzell - at least officially; I wouldn't be surprised at all, however, if "von Bruggen" was occasionally used instead of "von Straubenzell" - indicating that the family, whilst citizens of Straubenzell, for the insider would be a Bruggen family (either of long tradition, or just living there) - especially as Bruggen was in fact larger than Straubenzell, and the church was in Bruggen ;-). So the Bruggen church records (baptismal records dating back to 1774 only - marriages to 1637) might be a good thing to check (filmed !). > Thanks in advance for any information, suggestions! 1. [SWITZ] RE: KREIDER
    2. Dear KREIDER researchers: I have updated the information in SwissGen's SSD about the KREIDER surname. I have included data from FNBS 1989 (Baden, AG from before 1800), checked in von Moos (nothing found), and added the 1996 phonebook village listings (5 were found). Please e-mail off-line if you would like the street addresses of the Kreider telephone listings (data was in 1996) in Switzerland. Please visit: http://iseli.simplenet.com/ch-names/ to obtain the updated data from SwissGen's SSD. best wishes, Dave Schmutz p.s. by looking on www.mapquest.com I can see that Baden and Dättwil are next to each other. -----Original Message----- From: Melanie Himmelberger [mailto:mahimmel@nbn.net] Sent: Wednesday, January 12, 2000 9:36 PM To: dschmutz@es.com Subject: KREIDER Dave, I took a few minutes to look through my files since reading your last message again. It finally dawned on me that you were asking about the KREIDER family's origin. From a book at our local Historical Society, I learned that the KREIDERS lived along the Rhine River in Switzerland and brothers Martin, Michael and Jacob were born there. Martin and his sons Joseph, John Jacob and Frederick landed in the USA on 16 Sep 1736, in Philadelphia on board the ship "Princess Augusta." Martin's brother, Jacob, had come over in 1712 and was already settled in Conestoga, Lancaster Co., PA, when Martin came over. Martin's other brother, Michael, had arrived 11 Aug 1732, and he also had settled in Conestoga, Lancaster Co., PA. There the confusion begins as there are so many KREIDER male family members all with the same name not to mention they began to intermarry. I do know that my husband's line descends from Rev. Martin KREIDER, Sr. and Anna Catharine SCHMUTZ. I think this is why I put the KREIDER file aside...a little confusing and I didn't have the time I needed to spend on it to sort it all out. There is plenty of older material in our local Historical Society's library...I just need the time! Also, I use Family Tree Maker and I haven't updated all my files to Version 7. Rev. Martin Kreider, Sr. was very instrumental in the forming of the United Brethren Church in Lebanon. He was formerly a Mennonite and he had worked with Boehm and Otterbein in their labors for the United Brethren Church. His grandson, Christian S. Kreider, was the founder of Salem United Brethren Church at Ninth and Church Streets in Lebanon, the mother U.B. church of Lebanon (now Covenant United Methodist Church). Hope I haven't bored you! And someone who wants to be left alone will just do that ! The ordinance states that under normal circumstances you shouldn't get access to the register, but get a Familienschein as an excerpt of the relevant data instead - so there is some freedom of interpretation what "normal circumstances" are. 3. Dear Dr Seelentag & others interested - Does this alarmingly expensive piece of news also apply if you want to go and view the Famielenschein in person? A couple of years back I went & viewed the books (at no cost, but after several days wait for an appointment!) & was able to transcribe the relevant pages myself. My mother-in-law is returning to Switzerland later in the year and I was hoping to send her on a mission for me whilst there! My canton of interest is Obwalden, and the LDS have not microfilmed ANY church records from there at all. The family books are also of course much more valuable than church records as they group families together so you don't have to "guess" which ones are yours. I traced my RUFER & LANGENSAND families back 5 generations in 10 minutes on my last trip! I wish English records were so wonderful! Thank you for the thorough explanation. Regards - Anna - from New Zealand
