    3. When I read this thread, I recalled a folk song that starts "When you go to the Weggis Fair," and has a yodel in it. So I looked up "Weggis Fair" on the internet and found it! The song is called "Weggis Fair" and can be heard at http://www.smickandsmodoo.com/aaa/oktoberfest/oktoberfest.htm Have fun! Cheers, Judy ----- Original Message ----- Possible your music box plays the sond "Vo Lozärn gäge Wäggis zue". English title would be something like "From Lucerne towards Weggis". 1. Re: [SWITZ] Jenny surname
    2. Dear John and list, The Jenny name is certainly a familiar Glarner name, so whatever evidence you have that your ancestor was from Schwanden has a high probability of being true. The archives at Glarus are wonderful and have extensive genealogical records. If you can prove your connection to the ancestor born in Glarus, you will likely be able to trace your family back to the 1600's. I have not done any research long distance with the Glarus archives, so perhaps someone else can help out here. The information on the Glarus archives linked through SwissGen shows the address to be: Landesarchiv des Kantons Glarus Gerichtshaus, Spielhof 6 8750 Glarus SWITZERLAND I would be interested to know what the current procedures and costs are for getting information by mail from this archive - so please share if you find out! 3. Hi John! Weggis is on the "Vierwaldstättersee" (or Lake of Luzern). Find the city of Luzern and then hop into the Lake and start sailing East/slightly veering south across the Lake you'll find Weggis, a little town. The song is an old Swiss folkssong and sings about taking a cruise on Vierwaldstättersee and reaching the various stopovers, like Weggis. "Vo Luzärn gägge Wäggis zua, yii-hollerodidiii, hollerollidiioo...." (from Luzern toward Weggis...... yodelling) "bruucht mer weder Strömpf no Schuäh, yiihollerodidii-yohooooh!" (you don't need stockings nor shoes... yodel....) .....[because you can go there by boat!] "Yuuuuudii-hollerodiioo, hollerodiiooo, hollerodiiooo! Yuuudi-hollerodiio, hollerodiidoo-yohoooo!" Well, thats only the first verse, but I bet Walter could show you where to find the whole song, maybe even acccompanied by sound! Sorry, my yodel interpretation is in Aargauer, and not Luzern dialect ! I do hope that all Swiss schoolchildren who still enjoy this unforgettable trip across on their "Heimattag" (a day to visit their homeland - a longstanding tradition for Swiss schools) still enjoy singing this fun ditty.... as they approach the landing steps of Weggis. 2. The easiest way would be to write a letter. I know, I know, so mundane and slow in this hurry it up electronic world of ours. To obtain the address of the submitter (but you probably already know it if you have his name), you must be on the "Individual Record" webpage http://www.familysearch.org/eng/Search/af/individual_record.asp?recid=4266502 which shows: Ulrich BLASER (AFN: 580J-QP) Pedigree Sex: M Family Event(s): Birth: 14 Jan 1787 <Schwarzenegg, Fribourg, Swtz> Christening: 14 Jan 1787 Death: 7 Jan 1858 Muhleburg, Bern, Swtz Parents: Father: Johannes BLASER (AFN: 580J-VD) Family Mother: Katharina KROPF (AFN: 580J-WK) Marriage(s): Spouse: Elisabeth BLUM (AFN: 580K-F9) Family Marriage: 10 Feb 1810 Spouse: Maria MARTHALER (AFN: 580K-D4) Family Marriage: 3 Mar 1826 Submitter(s): On the far right side opposite Submitter(s), click on Detail. I have discovered an entry for Maria D"ATTWYLER related to my GGGrandfather, Jean Jacob D"ATTWYLER. Almost all the entries have the Father and Mother using the fathers surname. But Maria's entry has no father's surname, only mothers surname. Is the baby illegitimate? I have tried reading the script without success. Can someone tell what the writing says? I have scan it and I would send it as a JPEG or BPM file. Alan Rossing, Monterey, California, USA

    2. I am researching the Waelty, Waelti, Waelte [ae=a with umlaut] families who emigrated from Switzerland to Germany or America in the 18th century. I am especially interested in any information on Christian Waelty and Jacob Waelti or other families of the Shofltland, Canton Aargau area who emigrated to the Zweibrucken Germany area about 1705. I am also researching the immigrants on the ship St. Andrew that arrived in Philadelphia PA in August 1750. Many names are also in the church records of the Germantown Reformed Church (suburb of Philadelphia) and First Reformed Church of Philadelphia PA. Caspar Waldy who may be my ancestor was on board along with Swiss immigrants from the region northeast of Zurich and the region north of Bern. I believe the Swiss origins of at least 12 of the 102 adult passengers can be identified and possibly several others. The pastor at Germantown Reformed Church from 1753-1755 was Rev. Conrad Steiner from Winterthur. I am seeking information on these passengers and there Swiss origins. Dennis Welty
