I've "rescued" an old photograph of "Uncle" James GOULD taken at the Horton Bros. Studio in Providence, Rhode Island. The photograph was probably taken in the 1870's or 1880's with James appearing to be in his 60's at the time. In addition to his name someone has also written "Grandmother SWEET's brother" on the back of the photograph. The surname referenced as his sister looks to be SWEET, however, it could be SMED, SMEET, or SNED, as it is very hard to read. Based on limited research I'm wondering if this might be the same James G. GOULD (age 65) living with his daughter, Mary B. GOULD (age 17) in Providence, RI during the 1880 census, both report having been born in RI along with their parents. I'm hoping to be able to find someone from his family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to family. If you are a member of this family or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

One possibility is Sarah Ann (Gould) Sweet (1805-1883), wife of Oliver Sweet of Middletown, RI, and daughter of Thomas and Anna Gould. The Sweets had five children and I don't know how many grandchildren. I have not followed any descendants further than that. John Chandler
