Although the earliest record of him is the 1850 census, the censuses from 1850 through 1880 combine to pinpoint his birth in late 1820 in Rhode Island (ages 29, 40, 50, and 59, respectively). Since he lived in Foster all that time, it seems likely he was born there. If so, he was almost surely the son of Dea. Augustus Sweet (1782-1851) and Mary Weaver (1785-1839). John Chandler
