I checked my HANDYBOOK FOR GENEALOGISTS and it says that the Clerk of District Court for Guthrie Co., (in Grundy Center, Iowa) where your Nephi Sweet died in 1903 has birth & death records from 1880. Perhaps you've already tried that route?? If not, the phone number is 515-747-3415. His death cert. might include his parents names.
