    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: SWEET, BERGMAN, TURK Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/HBRBAIB/1140.1.1 Message Board Post: This is a long shot, but I thought I'd see if you might have a Waltera Sweet in your data base for the Sweet surname in NY. Waltera is my "step-grandmother". She married my grandfather, Percy S. Bergman just 6 months after my grandmother, May Belle Bergman (nee Turk) died of cancer in Binghamton, NY, 1946. Waltera's mother, known to me only as Mrs. Sweet, lived with her dtr. and my grandfather in Binghamton, until her death, which would have been between 1967-1980. My grandfather, Percy Bergman was employed by IBM in the Endicott/Binghamton, NY plant and Waltera (nicknamed Tic) was a legal secretary for a very well known attorney in Binghamton. In Nov. of 1963, my grandfather and grandmother (Waltera) were at a dance when my grandfather died on the dance floor...he is buried next to my biological grandmother, May Belle Bergman (nee Turk). Waltera and her mother, Mrs. Sweet continued to reside in the home in Binghamton. In 1967, my father was transfered to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida to help get the IBM plant up and running, and we've lived in Ft. Lauderdale since 1967. In the summer of 1969, just months before I was to start college here in Ft. Laud., my parents and I went back to NY to visit family and my mom, her sister and her dtr. and I went to visit Waltera Bergman and her mother Mrs. Sweet...that was the last time I saw Mrs. Sweet and Waltera. Not long after this trip to NY, Mrs. Sweet died in Binghamton and Waltera remained in Binghamton, still living in the home she and my grandfather, Percy lived in. Waltera was an only child and she never had any children...actually, she had little tolerance for children. She was a business woman and enjoyed her life as a legal secretary. I never knew my biological grandmother, as she died in 1946 and I was born in 1951, so I knew Waltera as my grandmother and although she had no patience for children, she treated me as her grandchild and probably "tolerated" me as a child, but I never knew it...she showed affection for me and I loved her. It's possible that Waltera had been married before she married my grandfather...but I have no proof, only info. I happened to come upon this afternoon from a data base that showed a Waltera Sweet being the wife of Harry Harlan Pierson, who was born in 1902 in Johnson City, NY. From what I read, their marriage was short lived, they divorced and Harry remarried and moved to Miami, where he died in 1971. The person showing this marriage in their data base has no info. on Waltera Sweet other then the fact that she was married to Harry Harlan Pierson. My guess about the year of Waltera Sweet's birth is that, my grandfather, Percy Bergman was born in 1903 and I remember someone in the family saying that Waltera (Tic) was a little younger then he was, so she may have been born around 1910. I can find no census record in NY for a Waltera Sweet, Waltera Pierson or Waltera Bergman who lived in Binghamton; however, she is still alive and living in an adult community center in Binghamton. My guess of her age now would be that she is about 92 and I know her health is poor at this time and her memory is not the best any longer, so she's unable to provide her mother's first name or her father's and any personal info. about herself. So I'm at a loss at this point, because I've always thought of Waltera as my grandmother and I'd like to add her family history to my Bergman family history. Does any of this info. sound familiar? Do you have any info. on a Waltera Sweet from Binghamton, NY? Any info. you might have that could be a connection would be greatly appreciated...I've hit a BIG brick wall. Thank you for any help you are able to provide. Linda
