Will: mentions sons Daniel and William, daughters Mary, Sarah, Elizabeth, Renewed, and Freelove, son Nathaniel to inherit the land, and executors wife and son Nathaniel. An addendum inserts daughter Susannah as well. The will implies that the widow was the mother of Nathaniel and, thus, of all the children. I have an abstract of his will, too, or at least some Philip of his era, and he is the only such Philip I know about. Philip Sweet dated 1709 Dec 12 at Warwick proved 1710 Sep 26 at Warwick Will: mentions wife, son Philip, and daughter Renewed. [RIGR p 2:137 - Warwick Probate p 1:69] As you see, there is nothing about a son Daniel. That doesn't prove there was no son Daniel, but I've also heard reports of land transactions of Philip Sweet, and there's no son Daniel mentioned there either. Again, that's not proof, but there's also no birth record for any of Philip's children, so how would anybody know that there WAS a son Daniel? > Timothy Carpenter gave Daniel "power of Attorney" in > the town of Providence in 1722/3, and in his will he mentions his grandson > Philip Sweet. If that's the only clue to Daniel's parentage, then we must also consider that Daniel's widow wrote a will soon after Daniel's death and mentioned sons James, Daniel, Jeremiah, and Timothy. The name Timothy can be accounted for as Ethelenah's father, and Daniel Jr was perhaps just named after Daniel Sr, but the other two are possible candidates. As it happens, the only likely Jeremiah is probably ruled out by virtue of HIS will, which mentions the daughter of a deceased son John, as well as a number of living children, but says nothing about a deceased son Daniel.
