I have the Margaret Sweet born 29 Oct 1740,who had a son Ezra out of wedlock in 1767 was the daughter of James & Sarah Stephenson Sweet. She is the 6th child of James & Sarah. Could she later married John Albro?? I have no children for Margaret Sweet & John Albro. This may help me. I have been working on my sister's records for the pass 5 years, adding and correcting all I can. Following is the source I have on her. Source: Descendants of James Sweet, Salt Lake Film #0385003. Arnold's Vital Records Vol. 5, Pg. 102. Margaret Sweet, daughter of James, Jr., on oath that the father of her son was James Austin. Her son was born 13 Apr 1767 in North Kingstown, Washington, Rhode Island. Margaret's name is not in birth records but in the records of her son. James Austin was born 14 Jun 1739 in North Kingstown, Rhode Island son of Edmund Austin and Mary West Thanks again for any help, Peg
Questions and points to ponder... There is no name given for the female child born to James Sweet Jr. in North Kingston on 29 October 1740. What is the evidence that this was actually a child named Margaret? James Sweet's five known children were all b. Portsmouth - what is the evidence that this same James Sweet had a sixth child, Margaret, born in North Kingston? Arnold's Vital Records do contain the record that a Margaret Sweet, dau. of James, had a son Ezra b. 13 April 1767 at North Kingston, and she gave oath that the father was James Austin. However there were many James Sweets...is there any evidence tying Margaret or Ezra to a particular James Sweet? Beaman's "Line of Descent from John Albro" indicates that John Albro and Margaret Sweet were married ca. 1715 and had their family 1716-1727; with Margaret dying ca. 1727. If that is correct, she could not be one of the Margaret Sweet's born 1729. However she could easily be the Margaret b. 1689, dau. of Benoni. With regard to the sources - the microfilm cited is of the notebooks of Florence Sweet Wetzel; the Arnold record gives no indication which James Sweet was the father of Margaret. Either of the Margaret Sweets b. 1729 that have been suggested as the mother of Ezra would have been about 38 years old. Certainly not past childbearing age...but should we not be looking for a younger Margaret? Interesting puzzle.
