The one who died in 1753 left a will mentioning wife Margaret, sons Benjamin, Thomas, Jeremiah, and Samuel, and daughters. (See RIGR 1:135.) The one who married Susannah Spencer probably moved to New York state. > He married Susannah Spencer, > b. Mar 4, 1689/90 in Kent Co., RI. There were two Henrys. The one in Attleborough was from an apparently unrelated Sweet family. > He m. Mary > Margaret Grinnin Andrews, b. Nov 10, 1662 in RI, d. May 2, 1752 in East Greenwich, There are two competing theories about his wife's identity: Mary GRIFFIN of Newport and Mary ANDREW[S], who was the "girl next door". "Margaret" is not in the running. I have put the dates actually found in the published vital records in the annotations below, with the implied double dates in brackets. > RI. Their children were: > Henry b. His father was just plain John Sweet, with no middle name. John's birthplace is not known. The date appears to be a guess, but it's plausible at least. > d. July 16, 1677 in Newport or Kent, Warwick, RI. I've found found any documentation for this date of death, even though lots of people say it's correct. > He m. Elizabeth > Jefferies, b. 1629 in Suffolk, Eng., d. Sept 18, 1684 in RI. No, she was *living* on that date -- she appeared in court to testify and gave her age as "about 55". Her death is not known. > John's parents were John Sweet b. 1579 in Modbury, Devonshire, Eng. Sorry, but the immigrant John's birth and parentage are completely unknown. There is no evidence linking him to Devon in general or Modbury in particular. His wife's maiden name is also not known. There is some indication it may have been Westcott, but that's not clear.
