Thanks to everyone for the information! Here are the results of some of my research in response to the question raised by Cyndi: "I note in Paul's response below he refers to a wife Ruth. Paul - is there further information on this marriage? How does this Oliver with wife Ruth relate, if at all, to the Oliver Sweet son of Benjamin who m. 6 February 1767 East Greenwich RI Susannah Rice, dau. of George Rice? (Arnold VR)." That is, of course, one of the issues still unresolved. If we are talking about the same Oliver, was Oliver married twice? If so, when did Susannah die and the marriage to Ruth take place? If it took place in NY, then these records might be terribly difficult to uncover especially since these records seem so limited. I also need to take a closer look at the land records for Herkimer since that is where I first learn of Oliver and Ruth prior to 1800 and then again in Scriba as early as 1806. I wonder too about land records in Easton (Albany, not Washington cty, as I had previously mentioned). I believe too that there are quite a few records for Benjamin Sweet's (1722-1789) brother William in Albany, NY. Incidentally, I believe that Arnold cited Susannah Rice, Oliver's wife, as the daughter of "George Rice, deceased." There is another record, I believe, for Elizabeth Rice to Henry Gardner that occurred in East Greenwich in the late 1740s-early 1750s, which I speculate was the widow of George. This is strengthened by East Greenwich town records, which indicated a close relationship between Henry Gardner and Oliver Sweet. One final thought re. my ggggrandfather Benjamin Sweet (1780-1828), who appeared next to Oliver in the 1800 Norway census, nearby Oliver in the 1810 Oneida census ("B. Sweat), and then in Scriba, Oswego, NY in 1820 census. I find it interesting that he named his first daughter Susannah (1799-1802) and then about five years later named another daughter Susannah.
