If I remember correctly, someone told me they thought perhaps they might have been brothers, but there has been no solid proof. My husband was born in York, PA and descends from Peter Schmid who emigrated from Frutigen, Switzerland (after being kicked out of Germany in 1711 for reading the Bible publicly).
