Surnames: Sweet Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/HBRBAIB/1156.1 Message Board Post: Congratulations on collecting the Sweet family so far back. Perhaps you can help some of us who have not been as fortunate? I am looking for the roots of Isaac M. Sweet, b: 1812, Genesee Co, NY. I think the family goes back to the RI Sweets who came originally from England thru Wales, but I have nothing to prove it. I did find John "Isaac" Sweet, b: c1579, Devonshire, ENG, who provides a base and starting about 1780 the name Isaac is used in a number of families, but I've been unable to find that crucial link. Any assistance appreciated.

I could not find the parents of John R. Sweet. According to the marriage records at the RI archives, the parents were Mary Eve SOUTHWICK and John Robert SWEET. Mary's parents were as above, except for the surname, and John's were Charles A. and Elizabeth S. (Danley) SWEET. The marriage took place on 1897 Sep 6, when they were 29 and 27, respectively. The daughter Amelia Irene SWEET was born 1899 Feb 28 at Providence. There were apparently no other children, since the 1910 census lists the family with only three people. It is interesting to note that the wife was listed in 1910 as "Eva M", aged "33", but married to John for 12 years. John himself was listed as being "40" in 1910. However, let's look at the original message again: > > Message Board Post: > > Can anybody help me with the family tree of Amelia I. Sweet. > > She was born on Feb. 8, 1918 in Rhode Island and married Albert J. > > Kenehan, also of Rhode Island in 1941. They moved to Brooklyn, NY and had a > > child named Irene Sweet Kenehan born 2/15/18. This is obviously garbled somehow, and it's not clear to me that there is any relationship between the Amelia in the query and the one that Joe and I have commented on. Note, by the way, that Joe's response was sent to the list, and not to the original poster. That's what happens when anybody does a "reply". That's the way it should be. However, this was a gatewayed message from the message board, so that the poster wouldn't see the reply unless she subscribed to SWEET-L. Once again, we see that the gatewaying doesn't work properly, either for the board or the list. If it can't be fixed (and I don't think it can), why should we put up with it? John Chandler

Surnames: Sweet & Crouch Classification: Biography Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/HBRBAIB/1153 Message Board Post: An Illustrated History of Spokane County, Washington, 1900, page 697. WILLIAM R. SWEET, a pioneer of 1879, was born in Kansas in 1865. He came to Nevada when eleven years old, spent three years there, then moved to The Dalles, Oregon. After passing one summer in that town he came to Spokane county, where his father homesteaded one hundred and sixty acres of land about four and a half miles from Mica postoffice. As soon as final proof was made this land was deeded to William R., who still owns and farms eighty acres of it. He is engaged in diversified farming and handles quite a large number of cattle and horses every year. He also has a nice little orchard of about four hundred fruit trees. Mr. Sweet is an industrious, enterprising man and a successful farmer, and he is highly esteemed and respected in his community. He was married in Kootenai, Washington, in 1894 to Miss Josephine Crouch, and they have one child, Roddy Curtis. Note: I believe it was Kootenai, Idaho he was married at. I'm not related to this family

    3. Thank you so very much for your interest, PK! I have the census records for John PIERCE - the only one that makes me believe I have MY John is the 1825 Census, which indicates the birth of a male child in the preceeding year (1824, the year my great grandfather was born). I have noted the other SWEETs in the area, but have no way of connecting them to Phoebe. John died in 1840 in Cortland Co. Phoebe PIERCE apparently migrated with her 4 sons to Jones/Linn Cos., Iowa, as she is found as head of a family of 3 sons. My great grandfather, Edward Leroy, was married and had his own home by then. They apparently followed the PEET families to Iowa. Edward married Romelia PEET. Just a moment, I will go see if I can find info on SWEETs that is not yet entered to the computer - - - I did not find it, but I will and get back to you.
