My third geat grandfather was Stephen Sweet Davis born 1821 in Fredonia, Chautauqua Co, NY and died 1864 in Hume, NY. His parents were Anna Mosher Davis born 1792-93 in Washington Co., NY and died (I have two dates and locations for her death) 1. Tombstone-died Jan. 12, 1843 in Hume, NY 2. Famly records-died Feb. 12, 1844 in Aurora(East Aurora), Erie Co., NY. Anna's husband was Benjamin West Davis born 1784-86 and died June 21, 1863 Hume, NY. Anna Mosher Davis was the daughter of Jabez Mosher Jr.(1759-1851 in MI) and Abagail Deake/Dake(1765 in Hopkinton, RI-1828 in Aurora, Erie Co.,NY). Abagail's parents were Charles Deake(1738-1803) aand Anna GOULD(1741-1828). I have always wondered where Stephen Davis got the middle name SWEET and now believe it was a surname on his mother's side(Anna). Alot of the Moshers, Davis and Gould's went to MI. My Jabez ! died there at 93. Do you have any info on Benjamin Davis.

    2. I am having a time with the birth dates of Elizabeth Sweet dau of Richard and Peter Wells, the son of Jonathan. They married 2 Jul 1746. Was her parents, Richard Sweet & Mehitable Larkin? Maybe I have her with the wrong Richard. This Richard's children would be too old to marry in 1746. Does anyone have birth dates for Elizabeth and Peter? I have no children listed for this couple married in 1746. Can anyone list their children? I have 7 children for Elizabeth & Peter Wells that married 11 Dec 1733. I have this Elizabeth's father as William and grand parents John and Elizabeth Jeoffery. Peter's parents Thomas Wells & Elizabeth ? Hope John can straighten me out. 3. Hi Richard, Besides the evidence of the primary record as John noted, Elizabeth Sweet, dau. of John, son of Richard, was not married in 1754 when named in her mother's will. So she could not be the Elizabeth who was married in 1746. Good to hear from fellow Sweet researchers! Cyndi -----Original Message----- From: Richard L. 3. Hi Kathy, This is how I've sorted it out based on Arnold and Beaman. Elizabeth Sweet, dau. of Richard Sweet of West Greenwich, RI, m. 2 July 1746 Peter Wells, son of Jonathan Wells of East Greenwich. This Elizabeth and Peter both died September 1757, as did their second daughter, Sarah, all at East Greenwich. Elizabeth Sweet, dau. of William and Thankful Sweet, m. 11 December 1733 Peter Wells. Seven children, births recorded at West Greenwich. You'll also find land records pertaining to them in the course of your research. Perhaps it will give you an additional avenue to pursue. Good luck! --Virgene Travis From Commemorative Biographical Record of Dutchess Co., NY: Pedro Sweet, a leading merchant of Bull's Head, Dutchess county, and one of the well-known citizens of Clinton, was born Dec 25, 1840 in Columbia countiy, where his ancestors on both sides had been residents for several generations. Maj. Rowland Sweet, his great-grandfather, a farmer by occupation was one of the early settlers there, and his grandfather, Luke Sweet, also a farmer, passed his life there. Jerome Sweet, our subject's father, grew to manhood under the care of his grandfather, and received an excellent education in the schools of Columbia county. He married Catherine Bathrick, who grandfather, Jacob Bathrick, was a pioneer settler of that locality, and lived there until the good old age of 100 years. He married Hannah Kilmer, and their son, Peter, born in the town of Galatin, Columbia county, married Maria Marks, and moved to Dutchess county, settling upon a farm in the town of Milan. . . . . . A few years after their marriage Jerome Sweet and his wife came to the town of Milan, where he bought a farm, which he cultivated until his death in 1884. He was unusally well-informed, a Democrat in politics, and he was a self-made man in the fullest sense of the term. Mrs. Sweet stil! l survives him, and is living at Lafayetteville. They reared a family of eight children: Pedro, Clement, Franklin, Egbert, Eily, William, Hattie, and Mary, all still living but the youngest.
