My grandmother, (whose mother was Emma Sweet), Dorothy (Barrett) Frary of Painsville, Lake county, OH had a picture of a wedding party that was taken in Long Island, NY at Corona Studios in 1932. I was given the picture when she died and I've been trying to identify these people. The note on the back says Mr. and Mrs. Francis ____nd. I've scanned the picture and posted it on my home page. If any one recognizes these people or can figure out the writing, I'd be most grateful. http://www.geocities.com/btrautlein Thanks. My Sweets were from New Brunswick but the rest of my family were from Fort Fairfield, Maine, not far from Houlton. Which ones are you looking for? One of my ancestors was Eliza Sweet who, I was told, was known as "The Sweet Singer of Maine". To my knowledge, she never lived in Maine so don't know about the veracity of that and Have never found it anywhere documented. Since this was a gate-wayed message, I have no idea to whom it was addressed. However, in case it might help someone on the list, here is the answer to the question posed. Goldie Sweet Martin b. 1902; author with Dorothy Bayless of "Some Martin Cousins" (Portland, Oregon: 1979), Library of Congress; "Those Martin's of Ours and some related families" (Portland, Oregon: 1979) Historical Society Library Pamphlet Collection, Wisconsin State Hist. Soc. Library; "From Sweet to Sweet" (California: ca. 1989) Historical Society Library Stacks, Wisconsin State Historical Society Library. From the citations given it appears all three were privately published so it is unlikely they will be found in a current bookstore. A limited search of used, on-line book sites did not turn up any used copies for sale. Surnames: Sweet, Sweat, Cotton Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/HBRBAIB/1189 Message Board Post: I am trying to find the parents of the Elizabeth Sweet who married Nicholas Cotton. She is listed as "Sweat" in "MARRIAGES By Rev. Elijah Herrick of Charleston Montgomery County, New York 1796-1844" : "Cotton, Nicholas & Elizabeth Sweat - Jan. 15, 1815" One source says "Elizabeth SWEET B JAN 1791 in Fonda, Montgomery Co., N Y D 7 APR 1875 in Braceville, IL" and though the birth date matches and she is buried in the Cotton Cemetary there, all census records I have found claim she was from Rhode Island.
She is referring to the notebooks of Florence Wetzel which were filmed by the Family History Library and are available on microfilm. Go to familysearch.org and then to the Library Catalog. Then do an author search on Wetzel and you will find these films listed - I believe there are 15 films in all. #385000 refers to The James Sweet family, vols. 4-7 of Mrs. Wetzel's notebooks. A recent contact has made reference to the family of Oliver Sweet in a source entitled, "The Descendants of James Sweet F 0385000." She said that they were notes in a notebook - over 12 reels of them. Can anyone help me identify this source? I checked the catalogue at the Family History Library, thinking that perhaps it was a series of microfilm I could rent at the local Family History Center. However, this search came up empty. Therefore, I am wondering if it is, in fact, a book or compilation of notes available in print. If so, then who compiled it, when and where was it published/written, and, perhaps most importantly, is it available through inter-library loan? If you could help me identify this source and where I can get my hands on it, I would greatly appreciate it!!
