Unfortanetly, as far as I know, their isn't a single test that works for both parents.
The folks who are complaining about male only research need to read up on genetics and learn what is possible today. There are other things that are desirable, yes, but not possible with our current knowledge. This is not a deliberate snub of females. Barb Austin

Thank you John Chandler! I hope you'll keep all of us posted on the DNA project's progress. My SWEET sons have already agreed to humor their genealogist mother when the time comes to send in a DNA sample. Unfortunately for us, that will not be until you have documented the main lines and can (hopefully!) connect us to one. As for the male bashing... John has no control over genetics. Easy does it, Celina. Marcella Sweet

You're helping me fill in holes, such as the date of death of Etta, Charlotte Benedict's daughter. If you do get to Geauga County and photograph headstones, I'd appreciate one for Maria L. Messenger, Shadyside Cemetery Russell Township, Geauga County, OH. She was the first wife of Preserved Sweet and is buried with other Messenger family members, I think. There is a great disparity in dates regarding her date of date of birth, marriage.

I've found information on Sweet graves at the Lake County, Ohio rootsweb site and I'll forward that information as well. I'm planning a visit to Lake, Geauga, and Ashtabula Counties in a couple of weeks. I plan to visit some of the cemeteries and photograph headstones. I look forward to sharing information with you.

As you may know, he was a double amputee due to a sleigh accident in the Dakota Territory in the Blizzard of 1888. Your own ancestry is also of great interest to me. My Sweet ancestor, John H. Sweet married (about 1830) Harriet Harris, whose parents were Preserved Sweet II and Nancy Warren. My great-great grandfather, Preserved Sweet III was married (2nd wife) to Charlotte Benedict, sister of Hervey. I would prefer direct e-mail to share additional information.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/HBRBAIB/1195 Message Board Post: It is now possible to take a simple, painless DNA test to determine whether two people are related. In particular, a test of the so-called junk DNA on the Y-chromosome (which exists in males and passes from father to son in the same way as the traditional inheritance of surnames) can determine whether two males with the same surname actually descend from the same male progenitor. I have started a project to test male Sweets (or other males with similar names, such as Swett, Sweat, and probably other variants that I haven't run into). The goal is to learn whether any or all of the several distinct Sweet lines in the US can be traced genetically to a single family, or whether there are multiple, genetically different lines. If there are many, then it should be a simple matter to test a Sweet whose ancestry is uncertain by conventional genealogy and discover which line is the correct one for that person. Before that goal is reached, however, it will be necessary to focus on testing Sweets with known ancestry to serve for comparisons. Anyone interested in participating should write to me: jchbn@cuvmb.columbia.edu John Chandler

My name is Maria and I was born Feb 18.1965 In Buffalo, NY. My birth Certificate read Babygirl Lusher. I was put up for adoption, and told that my mother had been married with 2 children and was from Pennsylvania. She was separated and her husband had custody of her other 2 children, She had gone to stay with a Friend in Buffalo, NY and somehow became pregnant with me. Thus she stayed there and gave me up for adoption. Do you have any information on any possible Lusher's that may have been in the Pennsylvania area during the early 60's that may have been separated with children?? All I would like out of this is to maybe see a PIC of someone who I might look like, and maybe get a medical history so I know what I could be possibly passing down to my own 4 children. As a single mother Medical backgrounds are very important to me. If you can help I would forever be grateful to you..........................Maria iyamlady415@aol.com
