In Madoc records of Baptism you will find the name correct. All other records searched have not turned up the name Bennett. The Benoni name shows up under several different spellings. All same person. However documented records at the time translated as the heard it, I am sure. This being the case in many old records

Cyndi has already pointed out an inferred marriage between a Margaret Sweet and a John Albro, but that Margaret was born long before 1729. Here are two Margarets not known to have married anybody, but who at least partially match the stated birth date. First is Margaret born 1729 Apr 7 at East Greenwich, RI, daughter of Benjamin and Margaret (Hammett) Sweet. Second is Margaret born Apr 4 (year unreadable) at North Kingstown, RI, apparently daughter of James, and apparently born after Elizabeth, who is rumored to have been born either in 1727 or in 1729. This seems to be the same Margaret who had a son Ezra out of wedlock in 1767 and declared to the authorities that James Austin was the father. There is some reason to believe that this Margaret was the niece of the one that Cyndi mentioned, i.e., that her father James was the son of Benoni. John Chandler

    3. Peg, The identity of Margaret Sweet as dau. of Benoni Sweet is argued in Beaman's "A Line of Descent from John Albro of Portsmouth," based on the continuation of the name Benoni in this line, and on the names of her grandchildren as enumerated in Elizabeth Manchester Sweet's will. The birth of a daughter Margaret to Benoni and Elizabeth Sweet on 22 September 1689 North Kingstown is found in Arnold, Vol. 5, Part 1, North Kingston Births, p. 102. Beaman indicates John Albro was the son of Samuel Albro and Elizabeth Lawton. However, I was just searching the LDS site and when I typed in BENONA, a Benona Haskell Sweet came up (son of Benoni) however, the parents name shows as Bennett Sweet married to Flora with a Birth Date of 1815 in Huntingdon, Ontario. There is no source info available and this info completely contradicts the death certificate Vonda has. Does anyone know anything? Please we are at a brick wall.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/HBRBAIB/1161.1.1 Message Board Post: After continuing to research the family of Ira Sweet and Sarah Hadsell, I have concluded that the dates of birth of the various children which are accepted by many researcher is wrong. I found many of the children of Ira and Sarah nee Hadsell Sweet on the 1840, 1850, and 1860 Census' for Pike County, IL. continuing thru 1870 and 1880 on a couple of his children. Based on Census data, I now believe the correct order and approximate dates of birth of the children of Ira Sweet and Sarah Hadsell are as follows: Sylvania, born abt 1817 - married Nathaniel Smith Ann, born 1818/19 - married Daniel W. Gray Ira A., born 1820 Barbara, born 1822 - married George MCCloskey Nathan, born 1824 Samuel O., born 1825 Rensselaer/Rensaller, born 1827 Thomas Andrew, born 1830 The 1850 Census was the first Census that identified all members of a family/household by name. It also listed their age at the time the Census was taken. Nathan Sweat (sic), Samuel Sweat, Renceller Sweat, Sylvania Smith, Ann Gray, and Barbara McCloskey, all appear on the 1850 Census living in Puke County, IL. Ira A. Sweet is known to have gone to California in 1849, returning to Pike County in 1850/51. Ira Sweet, Samuel O. Sweat (sic), Ranselor (sic) Sweet, Sylvania Smith, and Ann Gray appear on the 1860 Census in Pike County, IL. Nathan Sweet and Thomas A. Sweet appear on the 1860 Census in Wise County, TX. I was unable to locate Barbara nee Sweet McCloskey on the 1860 Census. (Ira) Alfanso Sweet, Ransellar (sic) Sweet, Thomas Sweet, and Sylvania Smith appear on the 1870 Census in Pike County, IL. Samuel O. Sweet appears on the 1870 Census living in DeKlab County, MO. Nathan is believed to have died in Tarrant County, TX in 1870. Ann nee Sweet Gray is also believed to have died sometime before 1870. The whereabouts of Barbara McCloskey at the time of the 1870 Census is unknown. I. A. (Ira A.) Sweet, and Renselor (sic) Sweet appear on the 1880 Census living in Pike County, IL. Sylvania nee Sweet Smith is believed to have died in 1879. Her husband, Nathaniel Smith appears on the 1880 Census in Pike County living with his son Eugene. Samuel O. Sweet is known to have died in 1875 in DeKalb County, MO. Thomas Andrew Sweet is believed to have returned to Tarrant County, TX abt 1873 where he died on a date unknown. Again, the wereabouts of Barbara McCloskey at the time of the 1880 Census is unknown. The birthdate of Ira Sweet (Sr.) is widely accepted by many researchers as 17 Jan 1802. However, his eldest child Sylvania's age is given as 33 on the 1850 Census; 44 on the 1860 Census; and 53 on the 1870 Census which would put her year of birth as 1816/17. If Ira was born in 1802, he would have been 15 at the time of Sylviania's birth and 14 at the time she was conceived. While this is certainly a possibility, it suggests that the accepted birthdate of Ira (Sr.) might possibly be in error. Please note that I have changed my e-mail address for anyone wishing to communicate.

    3. Hi all, I'm new to this board. I'm searching records for Moses Sweet who was born abt. 1775 in either N.C., Tn. or Va. He married Elizabeth Stephens in Washington County, Va. in 1798. She died I believe in child birth with their 3rd child. He shows up in 1820 Maury Co., Tn. census with the only other Sweet: John, his son. He remarried twice after Elizabeth and had more children with his 2nd wife. My question is: Does anyone know any information about a James Sweet that was in the 1820 Lincoln Co., Tn. census? I'm trying to connect this James with Moses who are in the same age range at that time. I'm wondering because in a book that I have on Maury Co., Tn. it has this entry in it: Garrett, Jill and Marise P. Lightfoot. "Maury County Tennessee Wills and Settlements 1807-1824 and 1820 census. pg. 118 Muary Co., Tenn. Wills & Settlements -- Book C-1. pg. 499 Litigation between John Dean plaintiff and John Sweet principle, 17 Oct. 1821. James Sweet, security. Now, Moses had a son named James but he was born in 1813 and he would only be 8 or 9 at this time. Any information or help received will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time, Michelle
