I have never found anything on my grandfather, only through census in the early 1900's after he came to Iowa. He listed his parents on his marriage cert as Columbus and Louisa Sweet. he was born we believe in 1884. Any help would be great!

"there are way roo many Jameses" and Henry's! At least my great-grandfather had a pretty distinctive name, Ephraim Ash Sweet, he is pretty easy to track down. And he always either used his full anme or initials, E. A. Sweet.
Hi David, Not come across Dorset yet but will keep you in mind if one pops up. Regards Midge
All the Sweets I am researching originally come from South West England. Regards Midge

There seems to be about a million SWEETs in Ontario and another billion in the United States. I can't go backwards past Abel Sweet and Keziah Rogers. I have a theory if MY Keziah is the same Keziah that married 2) David Boyce then Abel Sweet and Theophilus Sweet are the same person. But it is only a theory and I can;t prove that either. I only know that Henry Sweet and Wife Jane Damley brought their family to Ontario before 1848 when my great-grandfather, Ephraim was born there in Selby. Any more leads would be greatly appreciated. I do 90% of my research via the Internet, I live near Seattle, WA. so I can't do hands on research in Ontario.
If you find anything on Alexander Sweet, please let me know. what I found, doesn't tell me if Alexander Sweet had more than one child. Thanks Bonnie A.
The Sweets are Dutch, even the ones born in Canada. I am part Dutch too because I am related to the Sweets in North Gwillimbury, ON. Can. Bonnie

If I find anything else I'll pass it along. I'm researching the "other" Sweet line of the L&A area (descendants of George Sweet and Mary Milligan) and sometimes it's tricky to sort out who belongs to which group. BTW, have you ever come across an idication that these two Sweet lines are connected? There are some Keziah's in my line too - makes me wonder.

Gilbert married Irma Wegner and had four children, Lynne (my mother), Patricia, Steve and Timothy. All this information is pretty easy for you to find I am sure...I will ask family members if they have any more. My grandparents settled in Marshfield, WI...don't know if they were married there or not. Let me know if you want to corrisponde on the subject. I was just curious, never expected to find anything really (I only have access to the message boards) but WOW, this is neat.
My mother told me that the Sweets were Pennsylvania Dutch. For the DNA study, the possible candidates would be male Sweet relatives, i.e., descendants of Alexander Sweet or of his father and so on. For example, there might very well be some living Sweet grandsons of Alexander (assuming he had one or more sons after Elizabeth Ellen was born). For a checklist on how to hunt up a candidate, see the web page: http://www.fairleafarm.harvard.ma.us/dnasweet.htm John Chandler
