I've "rescued" an old photograph of "Uncle" James GOULD taken at the Horton Bros. Studio in Providence, Rhode Island. The photograph was probably taken in the 1870's or 1880's with James appearing to be in his 60's at the time. In addition to his name someone has also written "Grandmother SWEET's brother" on the back of the photograph. The surname referenced as his sister looks to be SWEET, however, it could be SMED, SMEET, or SNED, as it is very hard to read. Based on limited research I'm wondering if this might be the same James G. GOULD (age 65) living with his daughter, Mary B. GOULD (age 17) in Providence, RI during the 1880 census, both report having been born in RI along with their parents. I'm hoping to be able to find someone from his family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to family. Known children are: Sarah, Melissa, Melvina, Mary, Amos Milton who married Flora, Mary A. and Charles.

Although everyone esle seemed to get my test run, it never came to me. However yours was not the only one I got back on both addresses. Good luck hunting. Just stick with it. I have some family names that go back to the 1500's. Keep asking. I finally found my fathers father and grandparents (they are Wells) thats as far as I haver gotten with them. But I keep on trying. I too found a long lost cousin. We had known each other as children, but lost contact. now 20 years later we were reunited looking for our roots. I'll keep in touch.
