An addendum inserts daughter Susannah as well. The will implies that the widow was the mother of Nathaniel and, thus, of all the children. [RIGR p 3:34 TAG p 67:177] > The Daniel you speak of, I have married to Ethelenah Carpenter.I have him > the son of Philp. You mean Philip[3], son of James[2]? I have an abstract of his will, too, or at least some Philip of his era, and he is the only such Philip I know about. Philip Sweet dated 1709 Dec 12 at Warwick proved 1710 Sep 26 at Warwick Will: mentions wife, son Philip, and daughter Renewed. [RIGR p 2:137 - Warwick Probate p 1:69] As you see, there is nothing about a son Daniel. That doesn't prove there was no son Daniel, but I've also heard reports of land transactions of Philip Sweet, and there's no son Daniel mentioned there either. Again, that's not proof, but there's also no birth record for any of Philip's children, so how would anybody know that there WAS a son Daniel? > Timothy Carpenter gave Daniel "power of Attorney" in > the town of Providence in 1722/3, and in his will he mentions his grandson > Philip Sweet. If that's the only clue to Daniel's parentage, then we must also consider that Daniel's widow wrote a will soon after Daniel's death and mentioned sons James, Daniel, Jeremiah, and Timothy. The name Timothy can be accounted for as Ethelenah's father, and Daniel Jr was perhaps just named after Daniel Sr, but the other two are possible candidates. As it happens, the only likely Jeremiah is probably ruled out by virtue of HIS will, which mentions the daughter of a deceased son John, as well as a number of living children, but says nothing about a deceased son Daniel. 3. I call your attention to the will of James Sweet of Coweset (Warwick, RI) written on 1717/8 Feb 10 and proved 1719 Jul 18 by his widow Jane Sweet and son Nathaniel Sweet. The will mentions several children, beginning with son Daniel, but the land all went to Nathaniel. Does anyone know where this Daniel lived and whether he had a family? For example, could he be the Daniel Sweet who married Ethelenah Carpenter and settled in what became Glocester? If so, is there any proof? John Chandler

    3. John: I would like a copy of this James Sweet's will. The Daniel you speak of, I have married to Ethelenah Carpenter.I have him the son of Philp. Source: Salt Lake film # 0385003, Descendants of James Sweet. Daniel was made freeman of Glocester in 1708. He was Constable in the town of Providence in 1728; from records of Colonial Rhode Island vol. 4 pg.38. He was married to Ethelannah Carpenter abt 1702; from Vital records and Carpenter genealogy. Timothy Carpenter gave Daniel "power of Attorney" in the town of Providence in 1722/3, and in his will he mentions his grandson Philip Sweet. I see I may have another mistake to correct in my Sweet files. 2. This young lady was very hard to find. The complete name "Annette Emeline Sweet" born 18 Dec 1838 in NY. I have finally found her in the H/H of Eber Sweet in the 1850 census of Virgil, Cortland Co., NY. Eber 53 Shoemaker b. NY Lydia 47 b. VT Louisa 16 b. NY Emeline 12 b. NY Miranda 9 b. NY John 6 b. NY cannot make out the name of the last daughter age 4 In 1860 Annette Emeline is in the H/H of Andrew J. Sweet in Sharon, Walworth Co., WI. Also in the H/H are Mary his wife and son. In 1870 census Andrew, Mary and son, Frank are in Clinton, Rock Co., WI. Annette Emeline married Luther Otis Robinson in 1862 in Darien, Walworth Co., WI and they are in the census of Darien. Sometime between 1870 and 1880 Annette and Luther returned to Cortland Co., for a visit. While there they had their picture taken at "GRAY's Photograph Rooms, Marathon, NY." They may have returned with Andrew J. and family, but they returned to Janesville, Rock Co., WI. Andrew J. and Mary are back in Cortland Co., NY for the 1880 census. Who is Aber Sweet and how are he and Andrew J. Sweet related? I would appreciate any info on this family. Helen

"There is a Dorcas Sweet born 1798 listed in World Family Tree Vol. 7 tree 4150, born in Northhampton, Fulton co, NY married to Josiah Cronkhite. She is listed as the daughter of Sylvanus Sweet and he was the son of Benedict Sweet etc." My Sweet line goes back to Hiram Sweet, born Nov. 20 I believe in Rensselaer Co. NY. He had a sister Rebecca born Dec. 1, 1790 in Rhode Island. She married Levi Cronkhite. There was one more sister Salina, born about 1808 in NY who married Enoch Cronkhite. The Sweet/Cronkhite mix tells me there might be a tie in somewhere. I have not been able to get back further than these siblings, but have some older Cronkhite lines. Can you see any tie in to my line? Please contact me directly at Rick5354@worldnet.att.net Sincerely, Rick Eklund

An Elizabeth Sweet lived next to a ggg(?)grandfather of mine, Jacob Kittles, in South Carolina in the mid to late 1700's. Then, a little later, I saw that he had taken a bride by the name of Elizabeth. Elizabeth had been a head of household and then she was married, so I figured she married her neighbor, Jacob. She was listed as the widow of Jacob Kittles in 1784. She and Jacob had at least 2 sons - John and Jacob. I'm actually trying to find Jacob's ancestors. As far as I can tell, they lived in the lowlands of South Carolina, maybe around Beaufort. If you have any information on my Elizabeth, I'd appreciate it if you emailed me back at sksikes@sbcglobal.net. I live in Texas, too.
