I feel fairly sure that Riley SWEET was the father of Charles A SWEET, since I have a picture of him which lists him as the g-g-g-grandfather of Sylvia (listed above as Sylvia SMITH). Sylvia was a cousin of Suzanne SWEET. I believe that he really is the g-g-grandfather of Sylvia and Suzanne. Up to now I have not found any males descendents that could participate in the DNA project. If anyone has any additions, corrections, etc, I would love to hear. Chris Burk Albuquerque, NM

Does anyone know further information on this person? Both Riley (1785-1853) and Charles A. (1819-1878) were buried in the Sweet Cemetery in North Granville, Washington Co, NY. It's plausible they were father and son, but there's no direct evidence on the stones. Charles also had a wife Elizabeth SLOCUM (1821-1860) buried there, as well as children Dewitt H. (1845-1900) and Annie M. (1856-1872), and a second wife Sarah M. ROWE (1821-1872). John Chandler

The mother was Mercy Sweet, b. abt. 1792 in Mass. The children I know so far are: Emeline, b. 1820 in VT Lafayette, b. 1825 in VT, Maria, b. abt. 1827 in VT Benjamin F. b. abt. 1832 in MA Andrew A., b. abt. 1833 in Mass I think the father to this family is Silas Sweet, b. abt. 1877 (I'm still trying to locate a probate record for him to prove he's their father.) I did find a Silas Sweet buying 40 acres in Green County, Illinois in 1837, but I don't know if this is the same Silas. One son, Andrew A. Sweet bought a homestead in 1852 in Madison County. This is where I found the family on the 1850 census, living with their Mother, Mercy. Both Andrew and Lafayette were also listed in Macoupin County in 1850, so they were counted twice in this census. The oldest daughter, Emeline Sweet had married John N. Tatch in Fairhaven, Mass in 1837, and then they moved to Macoupin County in 1856. (These are my 3rd g-grandparents). I wonder if your Eliza Sweet is any relation to my Sweet family... If I find any mention of your Eliza Sweet in my research, I'll let you know. Marianne in CA
