Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/HBRBAIB/1354.1 Message Board Post: Due to the generosity of some of the participants, there is now a fund set up to defray some of the costs of the DNA tests. Part of this fund must be used before December 31. I am therefore in a position to knock $25 off the fee for each of the next six people who order a (new) test (and if more donors come forward, that number could rise to as many as eight). If you have had any thoughts of joining the Sweet DNA project, please consider joining *now* instead of waiting until the new year. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: sweet swett sweat switt swete Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/HBRBAIB/1354 Message Board Post: It has long been the accepted view that these three surnames (Sweet, Swett, and Sweat) and several other similar ones are all variants of each other and might all share a common ancestor. While that may be true in theory, we now have results from DNA testing that show it to be incorrect in the cases tested so far. There are 20 test subjects with the family name SWEET, 5 with SWETT, and one with SWEAT. Nobody with one name matches anybody with a different name. (Not yet, anyway.) Where there is no match, there is no close relationship either. For more details, see our web page http://www.fairleafarm.harvard.ma.us/dnasweet.htm John Chandler

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/HBRBAIB/1347.2.1 Message Board Post: In your research, do you have any info on the other children of Oscar Sweet (1837-1878)? My great-grandmother was Etta Sweet, and I am seriously trying to verify who her father was. It appears to be this Oscar per the census. Oscar seems to have died when Etta was still a young teenager. Do you have any info on that? Also, his son, Percy, was a young man (about 37) when he died. Would you know if these were due to tradegies, or to an unfortunate hereditary factor? Thanks!

    2. Hello, I do not know if this will be of any help to you. I have an Andrew Jackson born unknown. He was the son of Jacob Sweet and Katie Ann Winter. Jacob was born in New York and died in Waukesha, Wisconsin. Katie was probably also born in New York and died in Darien, Wisconsin. They had a penchant for naming their sons after historical figures. I only have information on their first born. Eugene Bonaparte Sweet b 14 July 1844 Venice Township, Cayuga County, New York. He died 2 Nov 1928 in Darien Wisconsin. The rest of the children were according to my records: Benjamin Riley Sweet Marion DeHart Sweet Melissa Sweet Lovinia Sweet Andrew Jackson Sweet George Washington Sweet I am directly related to Eugene's grandsons, but have no connection to the rest of the line so I have not gathered that information. If you are interested I will look to see if I can find the contact information for the Sweet researcher I received this information from. I have verified some of the information on Eugene's line but not for any of his forbears or siblings. Bob Sommerfeldt
