    3. Hi Elisabeth, Go to: http://www.sos.state.il.us/departments/archives/genealogy/landsrch.html and put in Sweeney, Simeon. It will show a Simeon C. and the property he bought in IL in 1847. The description says he bought the NE 1/4 of the NE 1/4 of Section 14, Township 42 N, Range 2E. This location is in Ogle County, near Monroe Center, about 5 miles south of Rockford, IL. On the same search you will find a purchase by a Simeon S. SWEENEY, 16 months earlier. A typo? A relative? One 1/4 1/4 section sits between the two properties. If you search Ogle County with just the surname SWEENEY, you will find purchases by a Benjamin SWEENEY Jr. in the west part of Ogle County, near Buffalo, IL. These were purchased in 1848. Sweeney, born about 1817 in PA, found in 1850 census in Chippewa County Wisconsin at age 33, married to Elizabeth A. Taylor who was born in OHIO. Simeon's children: Charles, Lewis, Belle and Edward. > Also know they were somewhere in Illinois in 1857 where Edward was born, but have no proof of birth. Also believe they owned land in Illinois but don't know where. >
