Hello All. My name is Karen French and I live in Tasmania, Australia. This is my first submission to this list. I am looking for family connections to my g.g. grandfather Michael Sweeney (aka Sweeny, aka Mick Swiney) who was transported to Van Diemen's Land from Cork in Ireland. He was convicted of perjury in 1849 and sentenced to 7 years. He arrived in VDL on 12th February, 1853 per the "Rodney"(3). Michael left behind a mother, Mary; three brothers, John, Daniel and Bryan and one sister, Margaret. It is to these four siblings that I would like to find a link. I am also interested in finding out about Michael's life in Ireland prior to his transportation. I have 1819 listed as his year of birth and he died on 23rd October, 1894 in Glenora, Tasmania. He (met and) married Mary McQuain (also a convict) in Tasmania on 26th December, 1854 and they had 8 children....Sarah, Daniel, Michael, Mary Ann, Jack, Anthony, Margaret and Francis James. The latter is my g.grandfather. I look forward to hearing from anyone who has a connection to my Michael Sweeney. Regards, Karen
