I am searching for information on my wife's 2nd Gt.-Grandfather, Jesse Swiney, who is believed to have been born in Ireland and died in DeKalb Co., Ga. before 1850. His oldest son was James M. Swiney, who was born somewhere in Ga. in about 1830. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
I've been searching for the my grandfather, Michael SWEENEY came over on in 1865. While I was searching the New York microfilms I thought copy down all the Sweeneys' I came across. Here is 1865 passenger list for New York. Some spelling errors and some stuff I could not make out but you folks find it helpful. (SWEENEY) N.Y. Hi I hope I made it on the SWEENEY mail list. Anyway I'll give it a try. I am looking for info on my Grandfather Michael SWEENEY, b.Sep 1849 in Ireland (would like to know where), came to the US in 1865 and began working in Washington DC in 1867. I'm trying to work back to the ship he came over on and the place he was born. Big order I know. Mike
I am helping my son-in-law locate his birth mother. His birth name was Boniface Sweeney and born in Alabama, we think Mobile. His mother was 19 years of age and working as a secretary.. She was Catholic and a Catholic Charity handled the adoption. They will only give us medical info. He was born June 5, l963 in Alabama, his dad we think was attending the University of Alabama. The adopted name is Michael Joyce. The parents we understand had dated about 2 years before his birth. According to the adoption files both grandfathers were blind. We really though this was strange. Her father was a diabetic. If anyone knows of a Sweeney in Alabama (possibly Mobile) that gave a child up for adoption would you please contact me.

Hi List Members; It was kindly pointed out to me that some of the people who belong to genealogy lists may not be familiar with ICQ. ICQ is FREE LIVE TALK Live talk means I can instantly message you and visa versa. Also we can chat one on one, or allow others to chat with us. The screen breaks apart into windows for each member in the chat . As the member types their words are displayed for all to see. ICQ is a free chat service, which is downloadable. That means that you go to a World Wide Web site and go through a few questions and screens until you come to one that says "download now". At that point the program begins to download. This is always a slow process. It took me about 20 minutes to do the upgrade, after I was already running the old version. Plus something interrupted it once and I had to start all over. (I always try to do it fresh, when I go into the internet). The Site can be found at http://www.icq.com/ or email me and I will send you an invitation to join Once the program is downloaded it has to be installed. I believe this one just begins the installation process for you. Some you have to click on to get them to install. I always download (it will ask you where to download) to C:/Windows/Desktop . That way It Appears On the Desktop, in an Icon so I don't have to go searching for it. From there you just double click to install. At any rate, once the program is installed (on my computer this usually takes less than a minute), you have to fill in a registration. This is the only thing I warn people about. I think there is a long disclaimer now that comes with ICQ. Don't worry, we all know that email is one of the least secure of all communication devises. ICQ is no worse. I put a FIRST NAME, a STATE, and on my chatroom I put my email#, but don't do this if you think people will send things you don't want to get. I don't mind letting people know what city I am in because my phone # is unlisted. Always has been. I may add AN INTEREST OR TWO, and then I check the box that says DO NOT ALLOW OTHER USERS TO SEE MY ONLINE PRESENCE...AND.... make sure the setting is on so that ALL MUST GET AUTHORIZATION TO ADD ME These two controls will make sure others who may be looking for the vulnerable, aren't able to add you and always be able to see you online, without your knowing it. Now the really nice thing about ICQ is that these securities are always changeable by you, and that you can password them so no one else is able to change them. Also, if you find that you blew it and suspect someone may have information on you because you didn't set something right, you can change your ICQ # without having to reinstall it. Also, there are many ways to go on ICQ. You can even go online invisible, and just be visible to those you want to see you. But remember everyone plays by the same rules. If you find you allow someone on and later want to DELETE THE USER, first set their attribute in the ALERT/ACCEPT mode to INVISIBLE. This way they won't ever again know you are there. I have been on ICQ for nearly a year now, and am most satisfied with it. We talk to close relatives who live in New Jersey, and New York, and further South than us in San Diego. Some are our kids. We talk to folks in Northern California, overseas, all over the place with LIVE TALK. For ESTABLISHED ICQ USERS: Please DOWNLOAD VER99A if you haven't already. A Note on Security: When I first got the Internet, I wanted to know what I was in for. As I learned by reading the news articles on my home page, anyone can be reading what you submit, just as any good hacker can get in and look around your computer if you are online. So, we all know, that the safest way to talk on email or ICQ is to not say anything that you wouldn't want published in the newspaper the next day. Or as my brother used to say, "look at it as ham radio". Hope this answers a few questions. But as always, please feel free to address this issue on list or over email directly with me. I have few facts but oral tradition. I have been told that this line came to Canada from Cork County, then that same generation came to Seattle about 1900 ish. this is what I have: Tim Sweeney of Cork County Ireland, married to Mary Maloy- McCarthy of Cork County. children: Nellie Dave Tim Caroline Frances Joseph married Dora Marie FLeury of Ludington MI. b. 1885 d, Seattle Wa. 1951 children: John Leonard 1911 Lawrence Howard 1909 Dorothy Ellen 1914 Francis Joseph 1916 James Edward 1918 Margaret Mary 1921 Eva Anne 1923 Patricia 1925 Any cousins? Further information? donna potts walling [email protected]
Hey all you Sweeney Cousins!!! From the few years I have been working on my lines, which include Sweeney's, I have found the that clans MacSweeney's were divided into many groups, way back. So we are likely of 3 or 4 clans, in Donegel, Ireland. My Furthest decendent, I'm not even sure of his name! It was John or Charles (more votes were for Charles), and he came from Antrim County (East of Donegal), near Belfast (so they say!), to America, with his son Moses. Now where was mom??? Did he kidnap Moses and set sail wit d lad??? I Just Don't Know!!! And neither does anyone else, of whom I make contact on the internet. Of 13 of Moses's children, I have contacts with decendants of 6 of his lines. I know that Moses married Elizabeth Johnson (another elusive character), who was supposedly somehow in the same family as V.Pres. Richard M. Johnson. (I'd never have remembered that name as a V.P. unless there was this reason to). They lived on the Slate River, in Buckingham, VA. There were 2 other Moses Sweeney's living in VA at that time...*s*...<trying to keep the faith>. So, this one Moses married and had these 13 kids, all with the same woman. Whew! At least that part is simplified!!! How a woman could have 13 kids and not be dead...well, I've near seen it done, but back then, it was the norm. Anyway, their last child John had my great, great, great, great grandmother, and the rest is history. So, Ann Marie, you are not totally alone on this list. I've only seen a couple of other posts made to it in the, ummmmm, maybe 5 days I have belonged. But someone is seeing that they get sent out to the, what, 3 or 4 members??? Oh Great List Master, Please make your presence known!!!!!!!!! And, would you mind telling me just how many members there are on this list??? I know I have posted this information before, and if it not objectionable I will again... Christen A. Rosamilia my Sweeneys can be seen at my site. Just cut and past this addy: http://home.earthlink.net/+AH4-rosamilia With Love, Christen
Hi! My name is Anne Marie and I am new to this list. My gg grandmother was Ellen SWEENEY FISHER, born March 1840 in Ardara, Killybegs Lower, Co. Donegal, Ireland. She was of Roman Catholic faith. She was the daughter of Myles and Ellen SWEENEY. She had two brothers, Neil (who also came to America) and John (who remained in Ireland - as 1905). She came to America with her future husband, Patrick FISHER, on April 15, 1865 aboard the Liverpool II. They married in Lansford, PA (possibly Lansdale) and first settled in Trenton, NJ. They had several children: an unnamed child, Mary, born December 1866, Myles, born 1868, and Hugh, born May 4, 1870, all in Trenton, NJ. The family then settled in Nanticoke, PA where the following children were born: James, May 11, 1873, Margaret, October 1874, and Patrick, October 1877. Ellen lived the rest of her days in Nanticoke and died on May 16, 1905. I hope this information sounds familiar to someone and we have a match!! Good luck to everyone in your continued searches. Anne Marie
Hello.. I've recently joined this new List and hope to find some information on some Sweeneys in Wales.. My Sweeney clan shows up in Newport, RI in the late 1800's..My g-grandfather was John Francis Sweeney b. 1871 and family lore says he was born in Wales..He married Bertha Wetherell in Newport, RI on 1-11-1894.. I guess not only am I new to the list, but that this is a new list, as I looked into the archives and found two messages. Is that so? Listowner, I would like to know who you are and when and how your Sweeney's came to Am. Mine came in 1750 from Antrim. Thanks:) Christen
I am seeking information on Martha SWEENEY who was born in Ireland circa 1790. She married a man named John BECKLEY in the early 1800s probably in PA. They moved to Marion County, OH around 1821. They later moved to Cass County IN. around 1839. They had at least three children: John who married Mary Gleason David who married Lucinda Wooley Eliza who married Daniel Weyand They may have had a son named Isacc a son George who married Elizabeth Miller and Sarah who married Elijah Booth. I am not sure these last three were their children. Anyone who knows anything about Martha her parents or siblings please let me know. Nancy Conrad

Hi Everyone, Michael SWEENEY his wife and three children Patrick, Alex and Mary were the first recorded SWEENEY name in Cleveland Ohio census 1840 believed to be from Glen, Donegal. Michael also had a sister Margaret Sharkey (SWEENEY) who settled in Euclid Ohio. I would love to hear from other Sweeneys in Cleveland and Euclid. I know there were several other SWEENEY relatives that came to Cleveland and Euclid in later years. Thanks, Cindy Mac Suibhne

Hi everyone, Just joined the list and am hoping to find some help. Looking for John SWEENEY (ca 1803 - 1886 MI) and his wife Mary Ann WHEELER. These folks were first in Hartford, CT and later in NY, possibly in/around Ontario County but I have no resources available for that area. They moved to Jackson/Calhoun, MI before 1850 where their daughter Rebecca Ann SWEENEY married William Thompson HALLADAY. ANY assistance will be hugely appreciated! (I'm trying to prove a new link through this line to William BRADFORD, Governor of Plymouth Colony and I'm trying hard not to get excited until I do so!) Debi Elliott in Huntington Beach
Hi - I'm new to this list. I would appreciate any information on Moses Sweeney whose wife was named Ann and whose daughter, Ruthea, married Josiah Maples ca 1765 in Pittsylvania co., VA. Both families evidently moved to E. TN and on to KY/AL. I understand that a Moses Sweeney fought at Kings Mountain. Was this the one or was it a Moses Sweeney Jr.? Would be happy to share information. Carolyn Tamblyn
Oops. Sorry to have posted two versions of my Sweeney from Cavan note. One was a first draft, and I must have saved it somewhere and sent it by mistake. Tom Fitzsimmons.
