Hi everyone, I am looking for information about a family of Sweeney's that lived in and around Iron and Washington Counties in Missouri. The earliest I have them there is in 1830 in Washington County. A John Swinney Sr. and a John Sweeney are listed as head of households. My ancestor was the daughter of John Sweeney the younger, Mary Jane Sweeney. She married Houston Edmonds in Iron County, Missouri. If you have any information about the Sweeney's in Missouri, please post what you have or get in contact with me. Thanks so much!!!! Carl Pantle

Hi I'm looking for information on JOHN 50,& CATHERINE,48,SWEENY who were found on the 1870 census in Centralia, Columbia Co., PA. Their daughter, CATHERINE MC DONALD, 31, was widowed and also living in Centralia with her children. Later information indicates that the Sweeneys came from Canada and that Catherine was born there. I'm trying to confirm this. Also trying to find John & Catherine Sweeny on the 1880 census. The younger Catherine (my g-grandmother) had married James Brennan in 1871. Anyone researching this branch? Rita

Martin, James and John Jos emmigrated to Boston ca 1882-1885. Who were the parents of Patrick? In 1856, Pat lives next door to James Sweeney. But the only James S I found in the church records is of James S married to Mary Gillespie. Together the had one son, named John b 1833. No record of a Patrick being born to this couple. I am looking for information on my 4th Great Grandparents: Stephen SULLIVAN and ??? SWEENEY b. ca. 1820s in County Cork, Ireland. I assume that they came to Medina, Orleans Co. in western NY state by way of Canada about the time of the potato famine. They had at least one daughter Margaret SULLIVAN, b 10 Mar 1841 in Co. Cork, Ireland and d. 16 Mar 1919 in Medina. She married Thurston LIVINGSTON, b. 24 Dec 1830 in Tipperary Co. Ireland. He d. 25 Mar 1917. He was the son of Thurston Livingston, b. 1791 in Ireland? The Livingston family may have come to Western NY state from Ireland before the potato famine, Thurston may have had an older brother, or uncle Robert LIVINGSTON who was in the Medina area as early as 1830s. Elizabeth LIVINGSTON, daughter of Thurston Livingston and Margaret Sullivan married Thomas STEEN (s. of Thomas STEEN and Mary SHEEHAN and grandson of Laurence STEEN and Ann MATTHEWS) of Ontario Co., NY and they lived in Ontario Co., they are my gg Grandparents. I have a information to share on later generations, but would like to learn more about the earlier generations. I assume that most of my Irish ancestors were Catholic, but I also wonder if some may have been Scotch Irish, like the LIVINGSTONs. Any information on these Irish Catholic ancestors would be greatly appreciated. Mike Burnett [email protected] Cave Creek, AZ, USA

Found this on a Glamorgan, Wales list. >>>You can find information in Scotland which has census, birth, marriage, & death indices on-line at: www.origins.net/GRO. You pay a small fee to search the indices and then an extra fee per document you order on-line. I was able to get marriage certificates for my 1800s ancestors in Scotland and found that the certificate included the names of the parents of the bride and groom which was an extra bonus in providing an another generation of names in one document.<<< Here is more on that site >>>The site is http://www.origins.net/GRO >>You pay 6 lbs (online) for 24 hours access (renewable) to the indexes, for which you can access 30 pages (I think) of search results. When you find a record you want a copy of you can click a button with the reference number, and you can order, again online ( 10 lbs for a certificate). Speed of response with the certificate doesn't seem that quick though.... The indexes cover civil, census, and parish data (I believe), and best of all you can search on any or all categories. Time period of five years either side of a date is allowed for in each search. Read the notes on searching - a search for Charles WENSLEY didn't find anything, whereas using a wildcard with the surname brought up the Charles W WENSLEY that I was looking for - an 1891 census entry and 1896 death cert on the same search. Great use of technology !<<< Terry

Are you on any of the Irish lists, they might have them for Scotland too. My McSweeney/Sweeneys are from County Cork, Ireland (not sure where though) and migrated to Wales in the mid 1800s. There son, my g grandfather came over to the states. I am on a County Cork list, and one for Glamorgan Wales. Maybe someone can send you the link to sign up for one of the lists. There are very knowledgeable on these lists. And some will do look ups for you. Or advise you where you might go to find more. I can't remember the site to go to though. This is a good site for Ireland, very informative, maybe you can find some way of getting to Scotland sites from there http://www.sci.net.au/mgrogan/ireland.htm Terry

Looking for Sullivan connections to my ggg Grandfather Thurston LIVINGSTON from Ireland to western NY State, he is found with his mother in Medina, Orleans Co. NY in the 1850 census. Thurstons Brother Robert may have come over to NY first. The son of Thurston married Margaret Sullivan. 58 Thurston LIVINGSTON. Born 24 Dec 1830 in Tipperary Co., Ireland. Died 25 Mar 1917 in Medina, NY. Buried 27 Mar 1917 in Boxwood Cemetery. 59 Margaret SULLIVAN. Born 10 Mar 1841 in County Cork, Ireland. Died 16 Mar 1919 in Medina, NY. Buried 20 Mar 1919 in Boxwood Cemetery. The parents of Margaret were: 118 Stephen SULLIVAN. Born in County Cork, Ireland. 119 SWEENEY. Born in County Cork, Ireland. The Livingstons were Irish Catholics and there were several generations of the name Thurston Livingston. I believe, it is possible that the Livingstons came to NY by way of Canada. Any help woudl be greatly appreciated. Mike Burnett [email protected] Phoenix, AZ

Mary (or Mary Kay?) and list Members: Hi All. Nope Mary, those definitely aren't my line, but on my line (there is a book published on my line.........a family history book, called The Family of Moses Sweeney) no one seems to know anything about the original immigrant. Only that his name was probably John or Charles, that his son Moses (from whom all of us on this line are decended), was born in 1750, and that the two of them came from Antrim County, near Belfast (I suppose that is like a city would be here in the states). A man travelling alone with a son, somewhere between the age of 4 and 16, sounds strange to me. Where was mom? Where was his family? So, for all of you who have Sweeney's who came over after, please see if there is any reference made to a Charles or a John who settled first in VA married a New Jersey born Johnson, and made a life in VA along the Slate River and then moved to Liberty, KY. Seeking information on the parents and or siblings of Martha SWEENEY born in Ireland around 1780. She came to U.S. and married John BECKLEY in PA. around 1804. They had eight children: George, Margaret, John, Eliza, David, Sarah, Isaac and Mary. The moved to Marion County, OH. and finally to Cass County, IN. where Martha died around 1863. Anyone who might know about Martha SWEENEY BECKLEY and her parents or siblings let me know I can find nothing on her before she married John Beckley. Nancy Conrad
my great-grandfather was Thomas Patrick Sweeney from Co. Mayo Ireland. He was the son of John (mom's name unknown) and born 1852. The one sibling I know he had was a sister named Mary born 1866 in Co. Mayo. There is a possibility that he had a brother Miles. Thomas married Dora T. Bowler in England between 1878 and 1880. They had their first child there, Frances, before coming to Utica, NY on or before 1882. They then had John born 1882 (Utica), Thomas Patrick born 1884 (Utica), Dorothy (my grandmother) born 1888 (Utica), and Mary (aka Mae) born 1891 (Binghamton, NY) They also lived in Rochester, NY for many years. Do any of these names ring a bell with any of you Sweeney researchers? Mary Kay Barner Mesa, AZ also researching: Bowler, McCrone/Mulcrone, McGreal, Ryan, McMahon
WW; I don't think there are many members on here. My Sweeney's came over in 1760 or so, so likely aren't of the same line as your'n. till we get back a long ways, perhaps in Ireland c. 6-800 ad. Best of luck! Christen Rosamilia
