    1. [SWEDEN] translation help - bouppteckning word "slinga"
    2. Pono (Norm)
    3. A 1793 bouppteckning from Hällefors (T) has the following entry under fishing equipment: 1 garn sikling slinga Now garn means yarn, sikling means whitefish, and the Swedish definition for slinga in one of my dictionaries is: slinga = i fiskeredskap: varje bunden, enskild del av nät eller not Google translate doesn’t do very well on that definition, but I’ve read quite a bit on Google.se and I conclude that slinga means the cord or cable [yarn] that holds up a fishing net, in this case a whitefish net. Could someone please confirm this or set me straight? Many thanks. Aloha, Pono Norman A. Sandin POB 1602 Kihei, HI 96753 http://www.sandinfamily.com [pau]

    3. To any who might have followed this thread: The "not" at the end of the "slinga" definition is the Swedish word for a purse seine and apparently the "slinga" is the device that allows the net "or purse seine" to be drawn together for harvest. slinga = i fiskeredskap: varje bunden, enskild del av nät eller not Aloha, Pono Norman A.
