The birth place given also included "Borestorp". Was this a farm name? After coming to the U.S. in 1868, he changed his name to John Gustaf Wadhams - perhaps too many Svensons in Galesburg, Illinois? (She didn't use the last name Wetterholm at that time, but I found her listed as Wetterholm when she lived with a daughter's family in the 1880 Swedish Census CD. A Gustaf Wetterholm and wife who lived in Bårestorp were the baptism witnesses.
