It was not at all unusual for Swedes to take a non-patronymic surname when they became a craftsman, or moved into town, or emigrated, or just because they wanted a new surname. Landin was not the most common surname to take, but there were 374 people (plus children) with surname Landin in Swedish Census 1880.
