Anything is possible. ;-) It is also possible that the date of birth in the 1900 U.S. Federal Census is not correct, and it is also possible that Johan August took the last name Velander after emigrating. I haven't been paying much attention to your thread, so I don't know what has been found already or where you've been looking besides the census of 1900. Have you used the archive called the Swenson Swedish Immigration Research Center? http://tinyurl.com/89t6wcc I don't see his marriage in 1898 in De Kalb County, Illinois or anywhere in Illinois on the Illinois Marriage Index. Who did he marry? http://tinyurl.com/7v8xqyy Judy Orland Park, Illinois Sent: 6:12 P.M. U.S. Central Time ----- Original Message ----- Hi Judy, I did find out that Gga is an abbrevation for Gillberga. The Johan August Velander that is in the 1900 census is correct but now I have a problem. I have followed Johan August until he leaves for N. America in 1907, the only problem is that the Johan August Welander that I am interested in emigrated in 1897 to N. America. The one I am looking for was married in 1898 in DeKalb, Il. I guess I have been following the wrong family. The Johan August Welander that I am looking for was born Sept 1876 according to the 1900 US Census for DeKalb, IL. Is it possible that there were 2 Johan August Welander born in Sept 1876? No. That would be something like obekant ort or obekant destination. "According to the destination it appears to be Gga" Maybe it is the priest's abbreviation for Gillberga which is very near Långserud parish. Look in the SÄFFLE section of the following map. http://tinyurl.com/axg7qs6 Is this your Johan August Wellander in the 1900 Swedish Census CD? Naomi, According to your guys US WWI draft registration he was born 23 Sep 1878 and is listed as John Ban Welander. He lists himself as being from 'Holland, Sweden' which seems a bit odd, but I've found these cards to generally be more accurate for birth dates as the person named usually filled them out themselves. Don't know if that'll help or not, just thought I'd throw it into the mix. Regards, Brian .
