Hi Judy, This is the Johan August Velander that I have followed and he is the wrong person. The Johan August Welander that I am looking for came to the US in 1897 and was living in DeKalb, IL when he applied for a marriage license on 9 Aug 1898 so that he could marry Tilda Johnson. Her full name was Johanna Mathilda Gustafson. He went by John Welander in the US and then later I find his surname spelled Wellander. John Welander and his wife died in 1939 in DeKalb, IL. Anything is possible. ;-) It is also possible that the date of birth in the 1900 U.S. Federal Census is not correct, and it is also possible that Johan August took the last name Velander after emigrating. I haven't been paying much attention to your thread, so I don't know what has been found already or where you've been looking besides the census of 1900.
