    1. [SWEDEN] Visiting Some Swedish Cousins

    3. I'd like to share what I think is a genealogical success story of mine. First of all, all four of my great grandparents on my mother's side emigrated from Sweden to the U.S. in the 1870s and 1880s. They were from Kalmar and Östergötland. I've managed to trace my Swedish ancestors back into the 1700s using the wonderful Swedish records and with invaluable help from people on this list, especially Bo and Martin. I then wanted to see if I could find any living Swedish cousins. So, I was able to trace descendants of the siblings of my great great grandparents, who did not emigrate, to the present day using available records and, again, with help from people on this list. The result is that I have located seven living Swedish cousins, not close cousins (typically 4th cousins) but cousins nevertheless. We are going to Sweden in June and are planning to visit two of these cousins. One lives in Norrköping and the other (who is 96!) in Värnamo. Needless to say we are very excited to have this opportunity. This is a great list and it has many very helpful people. I want to thank them all for the help that they have given me over the years. I hope that I will be able to help others as well in the future. Cheers, Bob Lightburn p.s. BTW, can anyone suggest an appropriate gift to bring these cousins?

    3. Do you have pictures of their relatives on this side of the pond?:} Those and an accompaning bio of each? Perhaps an item that signifies where they were living - as an example, if they lived in New Hampshire, a box off Maple Sugar "candies". Or Massachusetts it might be some dried cranberries. Use your imagination with those. It might be something connected with a Church, or famous person who was in that area. All the best. Let us know a bit about your triip, when you get back.:} Take care Bon Voyage! 3. Thanks, Barbara. Great suggestions. They all ended up in Colorado where I was born and raised. Maybe I should bring them some Rocky Mountain oysters (just kidding). I do have photographs and bios. I'll be sure to bring them along.
