Hi Lance, Swedes often took a different last name when they came to this country, most seemed to have adopted their father's patronymic. By the late 1800s Sweden abandoned the patronymic naming system and people could choose their own name. I have had families where each individual chose a different name. There was no explanation why people chose different surnames. I still haven't been able to locate Johanna with her family. She was likely the last birth so I will work backwards in the birth records.
